I normally don't cut and paste articles from pay sites but this story says everything about this staff. they are constantly looking forward. Rather than sitting back and patting themselves on the back they are looking for our one-and-done stud PG's replacement. Just reading the comments from Briscoe shows you how our rep with high major talent has went from zero to Kentucky and Kansas status.
Talk about it in the Message Boards
Five-star point guard Isaiah Briscoe from Roselle Catholic in Newark, NJ is the 17th ranked player in the nation from the 2015 basketball recruiting class according to Rivals.com. His incredible skill set has been seen by a multitude of college coaches so far during his junior year.
Briscoe is the #17 ranked player in the country from the 2015 class according to Rivals.com
"St. Johns and SMU have offered me recently," Briscoe told PonyPride. "Villanova has been in our gym recently and so has Rutgers. Arizona is coming to our practice tomorrow. Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Pitt, and USF have all been by as well, though USF hasn't offered yet. All the other schools I have offers from."
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound recruit described what it's like having so many colleges checking out his game.
"It's a blessing that they're coming from all across the country to come watch me work out. I just have to keep on working at getting better."
Briscoe was offered by the SMU staff a few weeks ago and detailed how he received the news.
"I spoke with coach K.T.Turner. He actually spoke to my dad and when I got home he sent me a text. We have been keeping in contact and we're building a good relationship. I'm actually going to call him later just to see what's going on."
The highly recruited point guard did contact coach Turner after our interview and filled us in on what their conversation was about.
"It went smooth. He said that he will be out here to see me within a week or so and that he was with coach Larry Brown, who I haven't spoken with before. Coach Brown hopped on the phone and was saying how he loved my game and that he would love to coach me."
From what he knows about SMU thus far, the five-star guard has positive vibes about how Larry Brown & Co. are developing the Mustangs' basketball program.
"I really like SMU. They have such great coaches. It's a great fit.
"I would love to learn more about the school. I'm going to look for their games on TV this year for sure."
Landing the #2 overall recruit in the country from the 2014 class, Emmanuel Mudiay, has put SMU on the basketball map on a national scale.
"I mean if Mudiay commits there, they must be doing something well. Right now it's like, 'If you want to go pro someday, SMU has something going on down there.
"I kind of figured he (Mudiay) was going to go there. He's a top five player… Larry Brown… it just made sense. Sometimes it's not all about the highest ranked school but it's more about where you fit in at. I think SMU is a good fit for him."
We will have more from Briscoe in this Friday's Pony Express, including the five-star describing his overall game.
