I don't really think it matters if the ball gets in on the ground or in the air, so long as it gets in. But you're right that the offense hasn't scored many tds, regardless. One of the run n' raid's biggest problems is that our redzone offense has been astoundingly bad; I imagine '83Cotton is covering converting in the redzone as one of the 'areas that needs lots of improvement.' I agree with '83Cotton that I've seen good things, but the flubs and kinks need to be worked out if we're going to have a good season.

Yes, I would agree that red-zone offense has been lacking and definitely needs improvement. When I say I'm "favorably impressed" by the offense this year, I'm thinking more about pass efficiency, moving the ball (at least between the 20s), Garret Gilbert's decision making, and fewer drops (though still too many). I also like that we've seen J. Gaines and J. Taylor involved in some plays that are definitely new to this year's offense and add another facet.

Areas that need work off the top of my head are:

1. red-zone offense

2. O-line play, particularly run blocking

3. receivers getting separation

But so far I like the look of the run n' raid a lot more than the old school run n shoot that we've seen previously.

After losing to Bama, they're going to want to remind the voters that they're great, and they'll try to run it up as much as they can. I can't stand the idea of us losing, but if we do, the margin doesn't matter. A loss is a loss, and I hate them all.

I actually look at this almost as an exhibition game. Media and Vegas both think we'll get blown out, and if we do, we do. I want to see our team come back healthy, and to play well.

Dealing with the red zone problem is easy...go vertical and get the TD before we get to the redzone. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I do not like to play coach, but a spread passing attack is not nearly as effective inside the 20 as outside. I wish they would put a power running package, maybe even a wishbone with Shead, Line, and KC say inside the 15. You could still have a good passing attack option with two of the backs, TE, and one tall outside receiver. But you would have a good option running attack also.

Ok, that is my first and only coaching suggestion I will ever make on ponyfans.
