After June Jones got here he said he didn't want to schedule Tech or ATM after the current contracts run out. I have no idea why, but he's the reason they aren't signing any new contracts with them.
That'd be a blast to play USC or UCLA. When talking about playing the old SWC teams, I think it'd be cool to try for Arkansas as well - respectable team and I imagine they'd travel to Dallas well. I'm also still waiting for the day that we get UT on the schedule - we've been missing the best years for it. Gotta love that we have Baylor through '19, though.
Arkansas does not have to travel well to Dallas. They have more alumni there than Ford could hold. But they have no reason to play us under than a W and that could be risky. They will have A&M there every year after this year.

Kansas gives them a beatable B12 opponent. Not sure about attendance, but it's great to beat up on BCS cupcakes.
KU didn't bring many fans to Rice last week so I doubt they'll bring many to UH unless Weiss (or his successor) get that program turned around.
I wouldn't sleep on KU for the future. There's not a ton of excitement around football right now with huge expectations on basketball. This year will be a tough year for the Jayhawks as their top 6 new players (1 transfer and 5 JC's) won't be playing; oddly, they all made it to campus. Good news for the Jayhawks is that five will likely be playing next year (which helps to stagger all the JC's they picked up this year).
Rice is a very good team, so I'm not drawing too many conclusions from the close loss. My take is 3-9 or 4-8 with steady progress upwards. By 2019-2020 (when they play Houston), who knows.
Supposedly the plan going forward is two "marquee" games and two "local games" for the OOC slate each season.
I interpret that to mean Baylor and TCU are the "marquee" games and UNT is one of the "local" games. If I had to guess, the other "local" game will be someone like SFA, SHSU, Texas State, etc.
I think that the fourth OOC game instead needs to be another "marquee" matchup. We need relevant home games that the casual Dallas fan is going to be interested in. These also appeal to recruits. No one cares if we beat Abilene Christian by 40 or Montana State by one. Think Mizzou, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss. State, UCLA...teams that want exposure in Dallas area without playing a powerhouse team.

We should drop Baylor and add an FCS. I know I'll get flamed but we need Ws. Teams get used to winning. One "super bowl" each year with a local "rival" like TCU (needs to be very competitive and be seen by BOTH schools as a big rivalry), everything else out of OOC should be "cupcakes".

We SHOULD have our cupcakes in conference with Memphis and Tulane.
No one is going to care anymore if we beat Arkansas State or UTEP. We need to beat teams that people have heard of to be relevant. Also, we need butts in the seats to impress recruits and the general public. Baylor and TCU will bring those.

Or we keep Baylor on the schedule and start recruiting to beat them which would be a lot better for the long term health of the program.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
Most Coogs I talk to think otherwise, pointing to the hires of Levine and Dickey. Your take?
Jury is out on Levine plus he recruits better than Briles and Sumlin ever did going by stars, offer sheets and the fact that some of Sumlin's guys who started last year lost their spots to Levine's recruits.
Dickey won 20 games and beat UT at Hof. With House, Knowles and Baylor transfer Rose all playing in addition t others, if he doesn't make the big dance or at least the NIT, then he's gone.
