Uh, how about recruiting players that can contribute in 2007. I don't care what position they play as long as they can "play"

Yes, anybody that can help us win more than three games over two seasons would be useful.

we need better players at every single position on the field although I feel pretty comfortable at TE. Thast's why we hjave only won 6 games in 3 years. From what I'm hearing there probably won't be any problem taking a full 25 man class next year or close to it based upon the defections that have occurred or will occur in the future so we need the best prospect we can get for every single position except TE. On the other hand, TE are great to recruit because they grow into OT, DE DTs so we need some of them too.

40 % big men is what we need. We also need some tall fast d-backs and bigger LB's. Well, how about a QB and running back. To round it all out how about two 6-2+ receivers with 4.5 speed or better.

But remember.. see footer.

Defensive line should be the first priority, especially defensive tackle. After that, I'd rank them:
Offensive line (never can have enough)
Secondary (CBs and safeties)
Big WRs
Kicker/punter
Running back
Quarterback (at least one in every class)

If Chris Phillips doesn't become "the man" at QB, Bennett may be scrambling for another JUCO QB. This is the 1st year since Bennett's been here that he will have the luxury of having more than one QB with game experience. Would hate to see this team have to start all over again at that critical position when 2006 is being set up (schedule wise) for a potential winning season.

I'd say we can't really be picky about positions, we need the best players we can get. I always like big uglies because they make marginal skill players better. So, if we have a big kid with some talent and desire, pluck him up, feed him, train him, teach him and throw him out there to block or wreak havoc. In CUSA, I suspect the teams with size will dominate this league.

Our recruiting needs are what they have been over the last 15 years: O-line and D-Line

This is where you start to build a team. You can always find an overacheiver at some of the skill positions who is a great player that the big schools do not like b/c of size, speed, etc.... Then you put these guys behind a good line and it is amazing what they can do.

Ok now its the Offensive Line/Defensive Line theory of recruiting. "You can always find an overachiever....." Total [deleted]. We've been finding those "overachievers" for 15 years and have sucked for 15 years. You need to recruit quality across the board several players deep. BTW SMU has only a couple of highly recruited Offensive or defensive linemen on the entire team-despite what some of you might claim-not a good omen for the Mustangs under your theory.

Careful Stallion, you're begging to be asked when you laced 'em up and stepped between the lines...

A good skill recruit usually knows who will be blocking for him. He'll know that without good linemen in front of him, he'll look pretty average. Look at Craig James. At SMU, he was great. He had great linemen in front of him. He got to the Washington Federals and looked incredibly average behind a swiss cheese line, and then blew his knee out when he faced a jail break into the backfield. I know, I had season's tickets for the Federals. So, I have always subscribed to get the best linemen you can get theory, but as I said above, we can't limit ourselves anywhere, we need help at every position on the field.

I'm 41 years old, I don't work out, I eat garbage and I smoke over a pack a day. Put me behind a line full of Forrest Greggs, and I might make it to the line of scrimmage before passing out. Put me behind a terrible line and I'll get killed before I even get the ball. This year's class should be heavily loaded with linemen, on both sides of the ball.
