Interesting option, but he'll be out if we want a "splash" hire.
Re: CandidatesWe can do it. We hired Larry Brown, a guy who has won championships in college and the pros. Don't forget, June was a "splash" hire as well. We can do it again.

Long live the Circle of Champions!
Re: Candidates
just like the last hire was...the Mob Boss and ED hit a home run then. Bigger ballpark now, need a bigger swing As far as that goes, I would be open to looking at Petrino...with a very carefully crafted contract... stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Candidates
Absolutely agree. If nothing else we should have the guts to pick the phone up and make the call.
Re: CandidatesI think that because of his ethical shortcomings, there's a very slim chance that RGT signs off on Petrino.
It's unfortunate that he's such a [deleted] person because damn he can coach 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: CandidatesStill say 6-6 bowl game and the tiki one still here.
Re: CandidatesOk once again I shall try. And this is base only on the understanding that there would be an opening.
I would be in favor of considering the coach that began the turn around of Boise State from a sleepy little team to the powerhouse it has become. The same man that took an SEC team to 3 West Division Championships. A coach who turned around 3 different programs in about a 10 year period even though he is a little heavy on the text messages to his girl friend. Re: Candidates
Tom Mason?
Re: Candidates
Where is Houston Nutt these days?
Re: CandidatesHe is counting buy out money from what I know. He is not coaching anywhere. He is speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club this week (tomorrow?). I will find out more when I hear the report.

Re: CandidatesNo thank you. Houston Nutt would only be here to cash a paycheck
We need someone hungry who wants to win and make a name for themselves. I don't care if we lose a HC to a Big XII or SEC team in the future. We should want that to happen 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Candidates
craft the contract carefully...no bikes, no blondes, etc... and use the buyout as the insurance regarding fulfillment of the terms. He would want (and should) get back to a competitive school, in a competitive conference...even if we are just "the next step up" stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Candidates
If you want to WIN, then hire Petrino, the sorry man he is can produce. Just put handcuffs on the contract. Make it a 5-year deal with escalating yearly salary. 1.5 (1.5 for assistants), 2.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 with a buy-out clause equal to the remaining terms. Anyone think KLEMM could be a viable candidate if we are going the Assist. Coach route - he can hire experienced coordinators and be the HC / Recruiter in chief. Re: Candidates
Houston Nutt is one who would look out for number 1. He would come into this town and turn it upside down with energy and new, good recruits. He would be the best thing to happen to the SMU program since Ron Meyer. Now after about 2 or 3 years you would be tired of him, but he would get us where we needed to be at the next level with an energy you have not seen before unless you witnessed it first hand. He is exactly what most on this board have been clamoring for. And then he would be gone. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
