Yes, we wanted out, too, but Baylor had no issue with it. They had TWO opponents lined up. Media doesn't do its homework sometimes.

Both teams wanting to get out of a game does not mean one of the teams did not chicken out. You said Baylor wanted to get out to play 6 home games. What do you think is the reason SMU wanted to get out of the game?

Maybe the reason is this....Why play 4 Big 12 teams without getting credit for being in the Big 12? Seriously not a hard concept. The schedule is plenty tough without the fourth. These games are simply warmup for the games that really matter.

I see that we both agree that they dropped Baylor in order to make the schedule easier. That is the euphemism for saying SMU chickened out.

I strongly disagree that they are just warm up games for the games that really matter. Yes, we could still get on a roll and go to a BCS game (this year) no matter how we do out of conference, but that does not mean the games against our natural in-state rivals do not matter.

The Northwestern Wildcats own one record that they probably would like stricken from the record books: The longest losing streak in college football history.

Between 1979 and 1982, the Wildcats lost 34 straight games.

That’s 6 more than their nearest competitors, the Virginia Cavaliers, who lost 28 between 1958 and 1961, and the Kansas State Wildcats, who lost 28 games between 1945 and 1948.

And during the streak they packed the house. My parents went to a few games when they could get tickets.

Rutgers just beat an SEC team and they are coming to our house in a few weaks. Yes, at this point it is more important to beat Rutgers than it is to beat Baylor. Stay focused on the end game. SMU dropping Baylor was the smart thing to do. Smart not chicken. Playing three Big 12 twelve teams versus 4 is not a big deal. I repeat, the schedule is plenty strong without the Baylor game.

Dropping Baylor was chicken (once A&M rebuffed our offer we should have just kept the schedule as is), replacing Baylor with a Top 5 FCS team was stupid.

And, the losses average -- STILL average -- 30 points per game (1989-580 in total points). CHECK

This does not include TCU (although the record vs. the Frogs (6-17) is abysmal, too). Include TCU while they are actual members of Big12 South and record is 0-48-1, CHECK

In 38 of those 47 games, SMU has scored 19 or fewer points. CHECK

SMU has never scored more than 27 points in those 47 games over now 25 seasons. CHECK

Meanwhile, those six opponents have scored:
40-49: 17 times CHECK
50-59: 7 times
60-69: 4 times

... and have never been held in single digits. Not one time in 47 games. CHECK
