Can you remember back this far...

Post by ponyfan777 »

Back in the Early 70's I learned to drive in a VW Bus on the SMU Campus in the football parking lot of Ownby Stadium. I'll never forget my Dad teaching me on those crisp n chilly Sunday afternoons. What did you learn to drive in and where?

For me, in the early 70's, driving was about the 3rd option of things to do in a VW Bus.

I started to learn to drive in my grandfather's beat-up International Harvester pickup truck, peeling around on narrow cattle trails when I was about 12-years old.

I learned to drive in a 1964 English Ford Consul Capri GT really cook car that was totaled when I got rear ended waiting to turn into my garage.

This car actually had a positive ground electrical system. For those of you who are not electrical engineers or auto mechanics, this means the positive cable from the battery was connected to the body and the negative cable was connected to the electrical harness.

I had to completely insulate the add on car stereo from the car body. Mounted it with nylon screws.
Just send 'da money.

Learned to drive on a 1969 American Motors 4 door Ambassador. As part of its earlier lineage, this same car had been found to be parked on the steps of Dallas Hall, all four doors opened and the stereo blasting. Owner of said car no where to be found. Courtesy of a fraternity.
