Kick/punt returners

Anyone know who's likely to be returning kicks this year? As I recall, we've had Blake Warren, Cedrick Dorsey, Cortley Blackmon and .... are they the only guys coming back who have had return experience?

I would think Fred Turner and Jessie Henderson also will get a look-see, because of their pure speed.

I would say it is between Warren and Henderson. Turner has great straight ahead speed but not near the shiftiness that these two have. I dont think you want your starting tailback back there so I think Dorsey is out.

I would agree with that. I also think the idea of throwing Ro Humphrey back there -- despite his great speed -- is way too risky. He's much too valuable on defense. I have no doubt that Jonathan Lindley and Brandon Jones (and others) can play, but as of now, Humphrey is the leader at CB, and we need him in one piece.

I vote for the Henderson/Warren team. Although I also saw Blackmon in high school, and that dude can really run, too, and make people miss. I'd be OK with him back there, too.

Blake Warren scored once (I think) last year and came close to breaking a couple more. He might not run a 4.2, but he is very elusive. And he's such a small target -- it's hard to argue against him.

Warren showed he has the guts to be a fine return man last year. What about David Haynes? Wasn't he a pretty talented return guy in H.S.?

I'd also heard talk about Haynes, and wondered about him. As to Warren, the last SMU game I saw in person was Rice in 2003. We got smoked in the game, but he took a punt to the hey-ouse. Once he found the seam, it looked like the Owls were standing still. He is quite the elusive little buzzard.

Anyone who saw his HS highlights will tell you how impressive Haynes is with the ball in his hands. Dude can really run.

I saw that tape, too. I don't think Haynes is quite as fast as Henderson, and he might not be quite as elusive as Warren. But he's close, in both cases. Somehow I think he might be a really good return guy.
