I'd sacrifice LSU losing Frank Wilson to land him at SMU. Otherwise, give me Nussmeier.

Chad Morris: Morris interviewed for the NC State and South Florida jobs a year ago. As long as Clemson keeps winning, Morris will receive plenty of attention late in the season, though his $1.3 million salary could place him out of certain mid-level jobs. Morris’ roots in the state of Texas could make him a strong fit for jobs in the Lone Star state.

Frank Wilson would be great. These things stood out.

When I think of Frank Wilson, I think of Mike Tomlin, who spent only one year as a coordinator before landing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coaching job. Both coaches are pure leaders with engaging personalities.

There’s a reason why Les Miles is paying Wilson $600,000 to serve as the running backs / recruiting coordinator / associate head coach: He’s the single most valuable coach in the country that you want coordinating (literally) your recruiting efforts.

Out of the 100s of college and NFL coaches, why is Frank Wilson automatically compared to one of the few African-American ones? Not trying to start some big racial discussion, just seems like a lazy comparison.

Frank Wilson seems like he'd be a great hire for us too, though. LSU mines Texas for talent and I'm sure he has some great connections in the state

I was focusing on the engaging personality part. I bet he'd even wear a blue SMU shirt on the sideline.

Yeah, I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to the original article.

I hope he would still wear the lei though to pay homage to JJ's time here

That's interesting, ECM. I've never really thought about it but when JJ's time is over at SMU he deserves to be honored in some way. Like him or not, we did dig out of the grave on his watch with four straight bowl games. Although unlikely, a 5th straight is possible. He should get recognition for that.

Frank Wilson is LSU's top recruiter. And yes, he recruits Texas hard.

Would he want to leave Baton Rouge for a head coaching gig at SMU?

I'll say this- if we get a younger HC with kids, it'd be tough for them to convince their family to up and move to Waco or Stillwater or Fayetteville for a "better job" in a P5 conference if they did really well at SMU. Dallas/Park Cities is such a nice place to live and the public school district is pretty much second to none. That sort of stuff matters to wives, who obviously have a lot of say in the matter. Not to mention, if we got the ball rolling with 10+ win seasons and AAC championships, we could afford to pay them a lot to stay.

Money talks. If he's only making $600,000, I bet he could be convinced to leave LSU for SMU

I'm sure if we paid him $1.5 Million with incentives, he'd take the job (assuming nothing better came along). To me, he would be worth it. Recruiting is everything. SMU is a better job now that June has shown bowl games are possible. It is no longer a coaching graveyard IMHO.

Wilson looks good. If we can't get him then the guy from Baylor would be a close second. ECM may have found the "diamond in the rough" coach. :D
