I think any of those listed would be good prospects in addition to Montgomery at Baylor. Big question is - is the CofC willing to step up/pay up to get one of those top level assts. as well as a strong staff that can both coach and recruit?

Better hope the CofC members are not tired of being the "SMU head coach" employers or you can forget all of those candidates. The major reduction in the amount of money we thought we would get going to the Big East will really handicap us in the hiring of a great coach if we are without the much appreciated help from the CofC.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

IMO we are really at a cross-roads. If we can't get the support to step up and get a top notch coach and staff then we might need to forget the AAC and drop down to a level that we can afford. Obviously the athletic dept. can't pay big bucks so we must rely on outside resources.

I like most on this board appreciate all that the CofC has done for our school but we must hope it doesn't stop here as we are only part way through the climb to national recognition.

Don't worry about the CoC - they have plenty of money.

Like him or not, we did dig out of the grave on his watch with four straight bowl games. Although unlikely, a 5th straight is possible. He should get recognition for that.

We'll name a month after him. Done.

Would he want to leave Baton Rouge for a head coaching gig at SMU?

Alright, I'll take the bait, just to have a little fun.

Have you been to Baton Rouge in the last 10 years? It's actually pretty nice here.

While Baton Rouge might not be Highland Park (what place is?), it is certainly preferable to McKinney, Texas, unless you are a fan of no trees, strip malls and parking lots, cookie-cutter track homes and nothing to do on weekends (except maybe play golf at 6 am if you can even get a tee-time then.) I lived in HP/UP for 4 years, Frisco/McKinney area (for 3 years) and then moved to BR b/c I had to leave Genericville, USA.

I now actually know my neighbors, have crawfish boils and BBQs with them, live on a lake, have real trees in my yard and town, my commute to work is 10 minutes, have fantastic restaurants (even non-chains) and shops to patronize, fishing/hunting and beach all within 3.5 hours, a more southern, laid back law practice, get to enjoy my kids and family more, all the real college sports I want to watch in person within 2 miles from my house, friends who aren't moving out of town every other month, new Fortune 500 and other major corporations and the movie industry that HAVE moved into the city, and a great downtown that is being revitalized. Does BR have problems? Yes, traffic stinks and North BR is similar to Oak Cliff--but, eh...

Just sayin...

But, hey, I'd love to see Frank Wilson become the new HC at SMU! Maybe not the only choice, but he would be a home-run.

Yikes, Hope you got a band aid to catch that purple and gold blood. Just playin on the "Leave Baton Rouge" vs. "Leave LSU" which is what I thought you meant/better discussion.

Has been close to 20 years since I was in Baton Rouge to visit relatives. They have all moved out since then. I did stop at a gentlemans club there 10 years ago on the way to New Orleans/Mardi Gras. They still don't allow those clubs in modernville, sorry genericville.
