How It's Done“I mean, he is a legend,†Trier said. “He could definitely give me teaching that I couldn’t get anywhere else especially when preparing for the NBA. He’s just a very welcoming person. I really like him. We text all the time, pretty much daily.â€
4 star recruit talking about Larry Brown. Larry Brown! 70 something year old hall of famer still grinding. "We text all the time, pretty much daily". Wow.
Re: How It's DoneI purchased season tickets to SMU Basketball today for the sole purpose of supporting the one SMU Coach in over 2 decades that understands how a College athletic program should be run. I checked out on all College Basketball a decade ago after attending most every game for 30 years. But I wanted to show my appreciation for Larry Brown and staff demonstrating how pathetic June Jones and his staff have been on the recruiting trail. I think SMU fans are starting to get it after reading hundreds of reports of exactly how to recruit. In a very real way I think Larry Brown is showing June Jones the exit door. His rationalizations and excuses are exposed as total [deleted] by the energy, devotion and commitment of the Basketball staff

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
How It's DonePonyboy has apparently handed over the June Jones Feelings Protection Society badge to mustangsabu.
Re: How It's DoneJJ's feelings have nothing to do with it. I think he should have been fired after ASU. But the vast majority of what is said about him on here is nonsense. In typical SMU fashion everyone is happy to take the success he brought but feels entitled to insult the system he used to get that success.
I've said it a million times. Wait until the season is over. We all know about his approach to recruiting. What none of the posters on the board, the college football world at large and the good lord God almighty have no idea about is whether sufficient numbers of high quality athletes would come and play for anyone here. And if we find that pied piper, will he be able to coach them when they arrive. You don't have to like JJ. You don't have to think he has the program in a good place. But for the sake of all that is good and holy could you numbskulls please get behind the 2013 fecking Mustangs! Mustangs Abu!

It's amazing what actually giving a [deleted] can do for a program (and it's the easiest thing a coach can do). They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: How It's DoneGeez, how long do we have to continue to post pettiness and hate? The money men have more than gotten their money's worth out of June Jones. How many times do we have to post this before the haters get it? JJ came on board with his strange system, pulled us by the feet from an absolute two decade long cesspool, saved us from what is in effect now the SunBelt, and got us national exposure by taking us to four straight bowl games. Yes, he's wierd, and yes he hurt our feelings by daring to consider going to a school with an actual interested fanbase, one that doesn't risk spilling its bloody mary while golf clapping. But he won't be here much longer. So why waste time on vitriol and spitting? Let's see if we can drum up an original thought to post.
Re: How It's DoneThere is one June Jones quote that everyone should respect:
"Forrest, Tom, Mike Cavan and Phil "didn't have a chance to win...The system was not set up to win. I really think I'm the only Coach since the Death Penalty that's been given an opportunity to truly be on a level playing field" Coach June Jones #HammerDown
Re: How It's DoneMy original post had absolutely nothing to do with JJ. More just how impressed I am with LB and his energy at his age. He's laid out the blue print (as did Ron Myer sans payments).
![]() To build SMU, you have to put in the effort and start locally and build out from there. It's very possible. Now, I hope we see the results on the court - we are in a much more competitive conference. Making it into the tournament from that conference, if it's this year or next or the next, would be HUGE. And if that's the level LB can take us (a pretty routine tournament team that is sustainable) then I'd be very, very happy.
Re: How It's DoneAnd to compare LB to JJ is very unfair, to either of them. LB is a legendary coach. JJ is a good turnaround specialist. JJ has done his job, LB is starting to do his.
I don't know if THIS is a fair comparison, but if you compare getting into the tourney in Bball as a similar milestone for getting into a bowl game in Fball. Then, for LB to reach JJ's success in Fball, then by year 6 he would have had us in the tourney for 4 straight years and us advancing past game 1 for 3 of those 4 years but never getting past game 2 (winning 3 of 4 bowl games that were all relatively minor). Would we be calling for LB's head in that case? Is this even a fair comparison? I don't know. My guess is we wouldn't be because LB would be establishing sustainability with Jankovich and elevating the program's profile by the recruits we get and the level of teams we play. However, if we would have NEVER beaten Memphis, UConn and beaten UH only ONCE in that span of time (comparing our Fball lack of winning against top tier schools like aTM and TTU and beating TCU ONCE) then maybe not.
Re: How It's DoneI still think not enough credit is given to LB's staff. And I do think we will miss Howard in the long run.

Re: How It's Done
Don't worry, in a few short years we will be baying for Brown's blood because he ran Howard off ![]() Mustangs Abu!
Re: How It's Done
I totally give cred to the staff. It's a team. LB hired the staff. The staff agreed to come and put in the work. LB demands it of them I'm guessing. All STARTS with LB but FINISHES with the staff. Maligi is a better version of Klemm. I hope he stays. He came because of LB I'm sure. Will he STAY before/when LB leaves? I don't know, but he's killing it right now that's for sure. If they land Turner, build the statue of them both right now! ![]()
Re: How It's Done
Wow. Just wow. June apologists know no bounds. Making a bowl game is NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE to the same as making the ncaa tourney. For starters, over half of teams make a bowl game (70 teams out of 124). There are about 350 hoops teams competing for 64 spots in the ncaa tournament, and besides the conference champs, you don't get in if you play a BS schedule, which would be the equivalent of our football schedule. And if you compare making one of the crappiest bowls to making the tournament, I guess that means we are a 12-16 seed in your scenario. So I don't think beating a Fresno state is the equivalent of beating a #1-5 seed in the tourney. It really is insane how people can be after collecting 6 wins against a bunch of assclowns
