Deep Passing Routes

Postby LakeHighlandsPony » Fri Sep 27, 2013 4:26 pm

I would love to see more deep shots taken. I know Jeremy Johnson and others have the speed to get behind TCU secondary. I guess the question is if Gilbert would have time? I am not a fan of the 40 yard throw to the sideline for no gain.

We are missing our best deep threat in Thompson, reportedly.

JaBryce Taylor also though I do not know if he is considered one of our deep threats.

Not sure if Gilbert could hit them regularly even if he did get time. They still need to be attempted if for no other reason than to keep TCUs shutdown secondary from having to defend only 10 yards of the field.

Do we have that speed? Jeremy J and the rest have good wheels, but TCU's secondary is always really fast. Either way, look at Hal Mumme's teams His M.O. is to throw all of those lateral passes to spread the defense out side to side.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to eat in FW before the game?

There is the Ol South Pancake House on University just south of 30. Only place I can think of open that early.

ESPN just had a great stat on "Explosive Plays" defined as over 20 yards
Teams with explosive plays in drives score on 56% of those drives
Teams w/o explosive plays in drives score on 10% of those drives
SMU seems to be proving that stat this year-since we have had few runs or passes completed over 20 yards

It is really absent from our offense thus far. Frustrating since we would really stretch defended and then the little dinks would shred them. I think we start to see more of that as GH grows in confidence.

If you want a bite after the game try Railhead BBQ on Montgomery and I-30. Great BBQ! That is a major frog hangout (they wear shirts that says life is too short to live in Dallas) so expect some boo's but the food is great.
