Recruiting is the key. So give him an extension to reassure recruits or fire him now so we can hire the new coach to start.

Why would we want to reassure his recruits. A new coach would like the room I would guess.

Hold on to hats, this is going to get worse before it gets better, regardless of who is at the steering wheel.

I don't think SMU would fire June Jones so I said wait until end of the season. BTW I'm convinced June isn't planning to be here anyway

I'm pretty sure any school that has the money and alumni support would have canned JJ back in the ASU debacle and especially now but I think it's that we lack the ability to do so... We need money and unfortunately can't get it on our own...

Take the time to examine our current verbals for 2014. We have 4 kids with excellent potential and the rest are lightly recruited with few if any offers and most will need to be red shirted just to earn playing time during their careers. As a result, if JJ were to be fired it would really not have any significant impact on our 2014 recruiting as the class in undistinguished at best. A new coach could do no worse than match the current class and might even get lucky with better recruits who get dropped at the last minute with programs who have over offered and must cut. Hence, any argument that an extension is necessary to save the recruiting class is without merit.

They will put two pieces of paper in front of him.
One will be an extension, one will be his resignation. They will probably agree to pay him for resigning. If he doesn't wish to sign either, then they lop his head off.
The public will understand SMU's position of not wanting to go with lame duck.

You really want to put a piece of paper in front of JJ that gives him an extension.

Let's see....continue doing nothing for next couple of years = bigger house in Hawaii.

I wouldn't take that risk, what if he signs?

Noop, but I am damn near certain that he will take a paid resignation over signing the extension.
It's either that, or look like schmucks to nation when you fire the guy that took you to 4 bowls.
