Special Teams Chaos

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Sat Sep 28, 2013 8:42 pm

In all four games, we have had players frantically race on the field at the very last second, for their respective special team unit. It would be understandable, if it was a rare occasion, but it's multiple times per game. What in the wide world of sports is going on here?

Lest we forget running the ball out 9 yards deep in the end-zone...missing chip shot FGs...inconsistent punting...

We also had one of our guys bring the ball out deep in the end zone on a kickoff and not get back to the 20, again.

Don't forget the shanked punt and the onside kick disaster.

I suggest we just ditch the onside kick. We have not shown that we grasp the concept in the last few years.

I saw guys quite on a punt that could've been downed inside the TCU five...lazy! And we could have blocked another punt if our guy had just jumped! WTF?

Fortunately the game had already become comical at that point. Otherwise, I may have had a stroke.

June is clueless. I was wondering why they kicked the PAT. If you do that then no reason to onside as you are still 3 scores down. If you plan to onside then at least go for two. That was so stupid.

Loftus kicked about 5 punts into the end zone. Hardly even tried to kick it in the corner or get it downed in close. Just infuriating.

The onside kick was about the worst special play effort I have seen in all the SMI games I have watched. And that included a lot of miserable swinging gate failures.

Embarrassing.

I really think Loftus was either afraid of another shank or was trying to make up (his average per punt) after that initial flub
