Thank you, Dawg, for shoehorning a little reason into this crossfire of kneejerk reactions.

Surely you cannot consider "kneejerk" a few historical observations about a team which has been mired in less-than-mediocrity for the last 16 years and which is currently riding high on exactly 3 wins over the last 2 seasons.

Point well taken, jtstang -- "kneejerk" was the wrong word on my part. But to wonder about who might replace Copeland and/or Bennett before the season even starts, when we have no way of knowing what criteria will be used to determine their respective futures, is just a bit premature, don't you think? I do.

Oh, I suppose you're right. I'm not certain anybody could do any better under the current "model" anyway (to borrow term I seem to recall having heard before on this site).

I assume we are talking about "Top Model" on that fine network the UPN.

Let's see how this season plays out. Perhaps Bennett is having trouble recruiting this year because recruits don't believe he'll be here next year. Copeland is on thin ice. If basketball doesn't produce some quality wins this year and football doesn't tick upward, he'll have some long answers to some very pointed questions. I suspect, he'd be the one fired before Bennett so that a new AD would have a chance to decide who he wants as his coaches. Let's leave the fire Bennett talk until we lose a game.

instead of hanging the same old group of suspects out to dry, why don't we go after turner, the board & the faculty senate!

they are the ones that created this mess & everytime this sh^%$$ comes up, they're always looking for a scape goat!

I sorry??

I'm sorry, the sky is falling and fall practice hasn't even started. I guess living in Texas and catching all the c--p from alumni from other schools, you guys are overly sensitive. My guess is that the team will go on the field to play no matter what. One thing I think that is driving this 'chicken little' mentality is the lack of early recruits. Many schools have just 1 to 4 recruits, so I'm not in panic mode just yet. Chill and enjoy your summers and wait until the team completes the season before 'lynching' someone.

can't help but wonder whether all this talk of Boren's leaving might be premature. He's still showing on the roster on the smumustangs site, unlike Clayton Cox who has been removed. While I'd hate to see another big guy go, I can't help but think how much better off this team is going to be this year than what it was when Bennett arrived. If any true frosh crack the two deep, it will be because tjhey are pretty talented guys. Just a few years ago, we needed to throw those young guys out there and hope they didn't suffer career ending injuries before they physically matured.

I heard he's been a no-show all summer.

If so, it appears rather simple:

He wasn't #1 on the depth chart & he wasn't motivated enough to make a difference. If he's gonna quit on ya in the summer, what would he do in the 4Q at A$M?

To be fair, Turner wasn't here to create this sh*t. He has actually worked to get rid of some of it...not sure how much he can actually do since Pye gave the store away to the faculty senate.

hey pk -

if pye gave it to the faculty senate, why doesn't turner (& the board) get it back?

(what giveth can always be taken away)

 nothing like being set up for failure

SMUMustangs.com might not be updated, but from what I understand, he's gone. I like Justin, and I hope he find success and happiness down the road.
