I know Lane Kiffin (28-15 record at USC) is a guy lots of people love to hate,
but I am sure it didn't help that when he took over USC, the Trojans were hit
with some of the most severe penalties in college football history just months
after Kiffin was hired. The penalties against USC included a 2 year bowl ban and
the loss of 30 scholarships over three years. Athletic Director Pat Haden recently
appealed to the NCAA to restore some of the scholarships. The request was denied.

Cowboys could have an opening for him, that's the only way he'll be coaching around these parts. I think he'll weasel his way into another AQ position.

Lebanese I think he would be an upgrade from June and
SMU would get lots of publicity...good & bad for hiring him.
I dont really care if people hate us...just as long as they know who we are.
He wasn't making that much more ($2.6) than June...
It would seem the AAC would be a cakewalk compared to the PAC12
But I really don't know how good of a coach he is.

three words to consider...

RAIDERS
VOLS
TROJANS

also you need to remember that Kiffin and Sarkisian were the architects of getting Norm Chow run out of town and then the two of them as the new Offensive guru's got USC beaten by Texas for the NC in the Rose Bowl.

Do you really want to go there?

he would be a massive upgrade for us. the pub would be great and he's a beast on the recruiting trail. plus he'll want to redeem himself after the failure at USC

I dunno.
The Raiders?
Kiffin vehemently opposed Al Davis drafting QB bust JaMarcus Russell.
Al Davis allowed Kiffin to coach what...one full season? Hardly a fair chance.
Wasn't he at Tennessee only one year?
And he took over an NCAA train-wreck at USC.
I not advocating Kiffin, but I think he should at least be on our long list.

His name on our coaching search list would be newsworthy.

I would not worry about Lane Kiffin. He will get some major cash due to him because he got fired.

I don't think there has ever been a coach that has ever survived the kinds of NCAA scholarship restrictions that USC received. And I'm taking about probations involving 25-30 scholarships over 3 years-not slaps on the wrists. Same thing happened at Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., TCU, Clemson, Florida, Auburn and so on. No one should ever take those jobs. Its always the successor that pays the price for the predecessor. OU, Alabama (and now maybe USC) both were reduced to losing seasons are they are the highest profile programs in the country. USC had a 56 man traveling squad yesterday

To put the hurdles Kiffin faced at USC read here...

Lane Kiffin firing was set up by USC's 2011 season

In the end, Lane Kiffin and USC administrators might have wished 2011 never happened.

The Trojans were coming off an 8-5 season in 2010, their first under NCAA sanctions that included the loss of 30 scholarships. However, the scholarship penalty was stayed for a year because of an appeal by the school.

So in January 2011, USC brought in eight players, which counted against the previous year, and then signed 22 in February. Kiffin and his staff were stockpiling recruits for what was expected to be a long slog through the some of the most severe sanctions in college football history.

I was thinking about possibilities of Kiffin to SMu last night.
I would take him over June. Would be controversial I know, but he can help turn around the recruiting.
Probably a short shelf life here, but hey, that is a problem we will always have.
