Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deleted]some of the hottest posts on the Frog Forum are why the hell does TCU even play SMU. The only redeeming value is that TCU fans still love to kick the [deleted] out of SMU because most of their fans actually turned out for an old rival. Many TCU had predicted only about 30,000 fans actually in their seats. When are SMU fan going to give a [deleted] Our fan base is very June Jones-like. TCU has brought 4-5 times more than SMU brought to Ft Worth and SMU couldn't even sell 1,200 of its visitors allotment. But we aren't supposed to bring these inconvenient facts up

Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deleti love the one with the smu girl holding the sign the wrong way...
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletLosing is a Disease....
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletI agree with you Stallion. That is why I always advocate for keeping the coach, whether it is PB, JJ, MD, etc. We have the coach we deserve as a fan base. If our bowls are minor league they are at least AAA, whereas our minor league fans are A if not rookie league. Everyone here says that if we start regularly beating our non-conference opponents that Dallas and our fans will care, but history proves otherwise and I am still not convinced anything will change. On that token I do not that fans in general are fairly stupid and there is usually a significant lag time between results on the field and butts in the seats. Win big and the next year or two the fans will show up even if you start losing. Start winning and the fans will not show up until subsequent seasons.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletWhat fans? There are very few people who can stomach 20 years of horrible, horrible losing and still be an enthusiastic fan. I dont know how much longer I can suffer the humiliation in professional and personal life being seen as an SMU fan, and this is in an era where SMU is at least pretending to try. Thise fans through the 90s when the school openly tried NOT to win are moreso either 1. Heros or 2. akin to battered spouses. I am not sure which. I wonder if it is damaging to our careers to look so foolish?
Fandom is a 2 way street. Until SMU builds up some credibility with fans nobody is going to emotionally invest in the program. "I think Couchem is right."

Now that is a typical hard core JJ supporter response. Looks like you definitely support JJ and not SMU. Last edited by Rebel10 on Mon Sep 30, 2013 7:41 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletthat goodness i have a backup school to root for. all eggs in the smu basketball is unbearable.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletI guess I can be considered a sun shiner when it comes to fan support, but in defense of SMU fans, do you realize that if you are/were a student at SMU, you would have to be 50+ years old to have seen your school play a Meaningful Game?
Meaningful Game = you attend a FB or BB game where SMU is a ranked team, they are playing a ranked opponent, and you as a fan have no idea what the outcome of the game is beforehand. I saw SMU play Phi Slama Jama at Moody, Coog High had 3 future NBA 1st round draft picks including 2 of basketball's all-time greatest and the game was undecided until Clyde the Glide took off the the free-throw line late with a monster dunk to seal their victory. That UH team played for the NC. I drove to Austin to see an undefeated SMU team led by Lance & the Pony Express wallop a Top 10 UT team. The following season when we faced UT at Texas Stadium, both teams were undefeated. So before we totally write-off SMU fans, let's give them a chance to support a real team. I think we will finally get that chance with LB.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletI thought the turnout from SMU was really sad. It looked like the same amount of fans we used to get from New Mex or UNLV or SDSU. I was actually shocked.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [delet
It sounds like you are saying in recent years attendance has been better. #HammerDown
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletI salute the fans that did show up! I did not. I had other commitments, but even it I had not I would not have made the drive to Ft Worth. Partly because of the team, but mostly because I do not enjoy being abused by opposing team fans. In my experience when we only have a fraction of 1 percent of the fans there is always verbal abuse. Now if we had the team we should have and played like we should, then the opposing fans shut up and the fact there are so few SMU fans present is not at all painful. Call me a fair weather fan if you will, but I am not going to spend the $200 to $400 dollars it cost me to attend a game just to get pxxxed at the team, the coaches, and the opposing fans. I will just stay home and watch the game on TV or follow it on the internet.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [delet
Definitely better than this year.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletWhy should SMU fans care enough to support a program that doesn't try?
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletThe TCU fans that want to drop SMU from the schedule are not credible because TCU still plays schools like Grambling & South-Eastern Louisianna. I look for this series to continue but only if SMU is flexible as to scheduling. There may be years when TCU has an opertunity to play a big game (ie LSU this year) when TCU will ask SMU to skip a year. This would work well with those SMU fans advocating a softer schedule.
As for attendence, my thought is that it is the responsibility of the home team to fill a stadium (something TCU is doing better at, but at times struggles). Having said this, I would expect more fans from SMU to at the very least, be curious to see the new TCU stadium.
Re: Hey Look there are all 1.800 SMUFans that Give a [deletthat's all I'm saying. We don't sell enough season tickets to keep teams like TCU out of Ford-that's why they can bring 8-10,000 but not selling your small ticket alottment 2 weeks in a row to former SWC opponents is pathetic. Ft Worth is 45 minutes away
