I can't believe this hasn't been reported yet, but looks like we lost another OG. He had some complications with his appendix surgery, and most likely will miss the whole season. At least he has a redshirt year to take advantage of.

Yes, we need more depth. However, we're still going in with Darrin Johnson, Martin Guidry, Chris Urbanus, Brad Kieschnick, Ben Poynter, Caleb Peveto, Tommy Poynter (and yes, he'll play), Kenard Burley, (he'll also play), Sean Lobo (maybe) and the freshmen (Nigh, Allison, Enright and maybe Lankford) -- who, of course, we hope don't have to play. The depth is not ideal, but it's still getting better.

This is why you need a HERD of BIG MEN. The reality is people leave and people get hurt, or have car crashes, or get bit by a shark ( out there ) but a team with depth can handle this.

40% Big MEN every year. That would get 34 guys a practice that are the backbone of the team. OK - I could go down to as few as 28. IMHO

I like the way Bennett is building this team

We need 15 O-line guys on the team
and another 12 D-line on the team

If you have 22 strarters and 3 deep at every position, for 66 on the team.
two punter and two FG kickers and 70.

Now choose to get others at ? position to get to 85.

We are still short of the number needed of BIG MEN.

again numbers and size mean jack-the real problem is lack of quality on both Offensive and defensive lines. You can go out every year in Texas and find 70-100 linemen who are 6-5, 260+ and made All-conference but are not Division 1A prospects because they lack athleticism.

Here is the breakdown off of the roster on the school's website:
OL - 18 , DL - 19. Now this includes walk-ons and those whom will be redshirted this season. In scholarship players (not including possible redshits) the guess is: OL - 12, DL - 11. We are light on DT as everyone knows, however the numbers aren't the issue, it's the quality & experience we lack. College linemen are the rarest of commodities, particularly DT. We have been relatively successful with undersized DTs, but haven't had a large, agile tackle in a LONG TIME. Getting good ones are always at the heart of issue. A quality skill player will stick out no matter what school, but the lineman needs a successful program quite often to be noticed.

Good point BP about the roster number and scholarship numbers. A Feign is on the roster ar 340 but is a non playing walk on from LAke Highlands.

Bottom line is we need more big men with quick feet and balance.

Bryan was forced into action as a true frosh so a RS year might not be a bad thing for him and the team. I still think we are much improved over the past couple of years, although we may still be a year away from where we need to be with the OL and DL. Whether we improve or regress from last year's 3-9, I still look for this team to be the most competitive we've had in years

You know as well as I do that it won't be numero uno. But it is a great stadium and it's on campus and it has been a benefit to the program, so it should be on the list somewhere. And it will be.

DeLay is in the 280 range. In addition, we have Bonds, Denman, Shipp, Ieremia-Stansbury, Rogers, Therien, Muse, Bey, Berry, plus the freshmen (Smith, Handy, Parham, Lankford). That's 10 plus four freshmen, unless I'm forgetting someone. Yes, we need more, but it's not QUITE as dire as you suggest.
