Are the hardcore JJ supporters expecting to lose to Rutgers?

Post by Rebel10 »

I know they said that they expected to lose against aTm and TCU. Just wanted to get an official expectation from them before the Rutgers game. I am curious as to the response.

As officially being declared as 'part of the problem', I'll bite.

First, I didn't expect to lose to any team. Particular TTU, MSU and TCU. And I felt very strongly that we could beat TCU.

I expect to beat Rutgers. Not because of my thoughts one way or the other about the employment situation in the football program, but because I feel we do have enough talent to beat Rutgers.

I watched the beloved Razorbacks play that powerhouse USM this year. My wife, who after all these year married to a former footballer, still doesn’t know what '1st and ten, do it again' means. Yet, she observed that the Beloved Razorbacks were a poor team. So too did my daughter that attended that game. And I sure as Hades wasn't impressed by the Beloved Razorbacks play.

Rutgers had much better talent last year (watched in person against the Beloved Razorbacks last year and on TV this year). Rutgers manhandled the beloved Razorbacks last year. Particularly the receivers. Rutgers doesn’t have those receivers this year.

The Beloved Razorbacks had absolutely nothing for a passing attack against USM (oh, but ponyte, they were able to throw all over the vaulted A$M defense). One magnificence game doesn’t equate to a great passing attack when 0-15 USM shuts down the passing attack. And the Beloved Razorbacks didn't impress throwing against Rutgers.

We have much better passing attack than the Beloved Razorbacks.

Our keys are our O line has to get physical! They have to protect (GG was slaughter against TCU cause the tackles couldn’t block and our RB had blocking issues). And they have to be more physical so we can pick up 1 measly yard when we need it.

The same is true for our front 7 on defense. They have been manhandled by just about everyone this year. And our LB corps has yet to live up to its potential.

Receivers have to get open and catch the ball. And we have to eliminate stupid penalties.

But the number one issue is we have to protect the ball. We had too many turnovers against TCU which was a major factor in letting that team off the hook.

I don’t give a rat’s rear end about JJ’s employment talks at this point. I do want to see this team start to play football. They need to get physical, to take that one extra step when executing assignments and finish plays with hard hits. No more flag football tackles and no more tickling instead of blocks.

We get physical and finish plays, on both sides of the ball, we beat Rutgers. And we beat Rutgers regardless of anyone’s opinion on employment status.

For the most part Ponyte I do not consider you a hardcore JJ supporter. I believe Arkansas did not have their starting QB when they played Rutgers this year and still almost beat them.

What passed for football at the end of the 1st half and into the second half of last Saturdays' should be an embarrassment to both coaches and players. That was the worse effort I have witnessed (and I haven't seen every game since Bennett) since the Rossley, Caven, Bennett years. What I witnessed made me ashamed of the effort our team displayed. I know that would not have been tolerated by at least one former SMU coach.

Players in particular should be determined to play more physical. If nothing else so they can hold their heads up knowing they play hard and gave it all.

If the players play harder, more physical and take charge of their play, we will be a much better team.

jj has that i i've lost that loving feeling look.
he is laid back which i have no problem with. that's his personality.
but his demeanor now is different. he looks disinterested and not engaged. he looks defeated and like he would rather be anywhere else.

i hate to say those things because i have always liked him (well at least until the asu fiasco) but if he was trying to get away from orsini then i can forgive that.

This is that game I've been wondering about all PRESEASON-you know BEFORE Texas Tech- when deciding whether I should predict 5-7 or 6-6. I went with 5-7 but I definitely think SMU has a shot at this game especially with their RB out. Winning conference games on the road ain't easy.

I am a some-what hardcore JJ supporter. I do expect to beat Rutgers. We must win our conference home games especially after going 1-3 in non-conference. I am a little surprised at the criticism of JJ after getting beat by two Big 12 teams and an SEC team. The AD should be criticized for the brutal non-conference schedule and not the coaches. We should be 3-1 or 4-0 against more winnable teams going into conference. My big criticism of JJ and the coaches is they are not hauling in better recruiting classes. JJ has taken us to 4 bowl games in 4 years and winning 3 of them. Pretty damn good especially considering SMU was one of the worst teams in the country for 20 years. I am about to withdraw my support from the program due to the ridiculous scheduling. Ease it up to get more wins is what needs to be done. If they don't do it then I am done with this crap.

Are you saying after 6 years to build a team we shouldnt beat if not be competitive against P5 teams... Are you serious? How is JJ not to be blamed. He might as well have a lawn chair folded out cause he literally cares 0 about this team. The team reflects not only the talent gap but also the will to lose. I just dont understand the rationality (or lack thereof) that JJ is innocent in all this. It truly blows my mind at some of the defenders of JJ especially the hardcore ones.

I think the criticism comes in how we got beat and not just getting beat. I did not think we would get beat by 31 by TCU.

You've acknowledged that June's recruiting sucks but instead of threatening to pull support for that issue you've threatened to pull support because the AD has been scheduling too many good teams people actually want to see play?

To be fair to AD Hart I believe Orsini scheduled those games during the Bennett years.
