The fact that he does not recruit in the manner which many of the aficionados on this board wish does not mean that he is not putting effort into his job. There is no evidence whatsoever that JJ at SMU has not done exactly what he did every day at Hawaii. His demeanor is no different on the sidelines, his approach to coaching is the same on the practice field. I could be wrong but I haven't heard anything that would make me think June has changed. You can talk about ASU, and I wanted him gone right then, but he did the same thing to Hawaii except he actually got the job. There is, however, considerable evidence that the fans have given up. I hope the kids don't read this drivel because the day they give up will be the saddest day. I've learned not to expect our fans to have any fight. Finger pointing is much easier.

I hate where our team is at right now, and June has to take responsibility for it. But for the millionth time I believe we need to get behind the team for this season, see where it ends, and make sure the kids know that we want them to succeed. Too many people in this board would rather bolster their attacks on June than support the team. You may not like June, you probably don't know him personally. You may not think June is good at his job, it's probably not a job you have ever attempted to do. You probably think someone else can do better, I hope you are right, but evidence is scarce. What you can do is support the team. That is something everyone on this board can do.

If it weren't for events in DC right now I'd say ponyfans were the biggest babies in the nation.

Support our team. Amidst the chaos there have been some really good players emerging and they are capable of winning some games.

Several of us have been supporting the team for years now. At some point, after spending $500 for the Mustang Club donation, $120 for season tickets, and $1,000 or whatever for a tailgate spot it becomes rather frustrating to watch us get blown out game after game.

Like I said in a different post, June and the team always come out and randomly win a game after a series of blow out losses (i.e. last year against Houston). However, Rutgers isn't Houston. If we lose Saturday and go 1-4, I don't hold out much hope for the rest of the season. And yes, I think we as fans, the ones who pay to watch the team, are well within our rights to be disappointed.

Oh my goodness! You think Rutgers is not on par with Houston? You need to get focused real quick. Rutgers is fully capable of beating us and Houston. We need to be ready. Also, when has a loss ever been anything but disappointing.

Disappointed is fine, and to be expected. But just saying we need to focus on the team, what is happening on this board is not disappointment, it's finger pointing nonsense when the team needs fans that believe in them more than ever.

If you honestly think what is going on here on this message board is even close to the venom that comes from message boards of schools with real programs and real fans then you have never spent a second on any non-SMU message board. Go check out what they're talking about on the UT message boards re: Mack Brown. Go read the jubilation over on the USC boards re: Lane Kiffin. Coaches are paid an insane amount of money and when they wet the bed real fans get angry. This board is a walk in the park compared to the message board scrutiny of real programs.
Back off Warchild seriously.

And I'd have the same thing to say to them, so
I shouldn't say PFs are the worst. For that I apologize. I just think that this sort of reaction to things is deeply unhelpful.

No worries! At least the weather is supposed to be fantastic on Saturday. Partly sunny and mid 70's. Small victories...

What exactly do you feel is deeply unhelpful? Venting real frustrations regarding the football program? Calling out a coach that makes $2M a year for fielding a completely non-competitive team and totaly inept offense (his area of expertise)? The same coach who was a whisker away from bolting this place for ASU until they wisely came to their senses only to come crawling back?

The frustrations of our REAL FANS need to be voiced else we simply drift back to obscurity and irrelevance.

Losing games is one thing. Repeated blowouts is another.

Exactly. What was the expectation when we hired Jones? We thought we were getting a guy that ran a high octane, entertaining offense that would put up big stats and points. If nothing else we would put an entertaining product on the field. Watching us on offense is cruel and unusual punishment. We've won games DESPITE his offense by getting pretty good defensive play and big turnover margins.

First of all I'll assume you are not saying that I'm not a real fan. I would go on to say that much of what is happening on this board is only negative for the development of our program. There is very little reasoned and educated opinion, and almost no support for the current football team.

Do not confuse June Jones with the football team. He is not the team...he is supposed to be the coach. We can be unsatisfied with the coach and still support the team.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

All the people on here going to the games and cheering and staying to the end no matter how badly we're getting our asses kicked are supporting the team. That's real support not typing "SMU is the best team ever and will never lose a game" repeatedly.
