I know I am a voice crying in the wilderness, but this guy can coach, recruit, and does not put up with foolishness:

Is the CoC ready to make him the highest paid coach in college football with a P5 caliber salary pool for assistants? Because if not we won't be getting any legit, entrenched P5 coach like D'Antonio. Plus our attendance would probably give him another heart attack.

Why would he have a heart attack? The are no sudden, loud noises at Ford Stadium. It's like a hospital ward most saturdays...

The shock from seeing Ford half-empty for a game should do it, especially when he's used to coaching in front of 70,000 +.

Good point but he gets 2M. 3M with perks (home in HP, etc) just might get a lower p5.

Looking at the list of P5 coaches, I can't see anyone legit wanting to make a move backwards for just 3M (which they could get from their current school by using interest from SMU).

Born in El Paso (raised in Ohio). Never coached in Texas and has recruited Texas very sparingly while at Michigan State.

Why are you starting a thread about the current coach at Michigan State University? No current BCS head coach is going to leave their job to come take the SMU vacancy.

I'm not ready to look to change until the CofC is ready, but if I were looking for an SMU coach I might start looking at some good coaches who haven't made big names yet but have proven they can coach (and recruit). For example, this weekend two very good coaches match up with Northern Iowa (coach Mark Farley) playing North Dakota State (coach Craig Bohl). Both are 4 and 0. Northern Iowa beat Iowa State in their first game. NDSU beat Kansas State. Also McNeese State is putting big numbers on the scoreboard.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't like Dantonio (or another coach from a big school. I just don't think Dantonio would want to come here when he's at Michie State and doing well.

They can recruit for the 1-AA level but it's a whole different world in FBS.
