Interesting quote regarding recruiting. Hmmmmm- guess some of us that are p1ssed about our lack of recruiting aren't so far off base after all.

"If you can't get these four- and five-star recruits, you're not going to have a winning program," Burton said. "You just don't stay in business that way."

I'd be interested to see a similar interview with Gerald Ford or Carl Sewell about the current state of our program

Sure does! I haven't heard a peep from anyone in the inner circle in a long time. I guess you have to be on the inner inner circle to hear anything. Seems to be they need to speak every now and again other than their wallets.

I don't believe I am on the speed dial of any of them and do not expect them to come to me for advice.

Burton's top choice for the UConn vacancy the last time was Steve Addazio, a Farmington native who had been offensive coordinator for the University of Florida Gators in the rugged Southeastern Conference. Temple University hired Addazio, who was pried away by Boston College last December.

"I know that Steve Addazio was the kind of coach that we needed," Burton said. "I knew I was 100 percent right. And so be it. I don't like seeing people lose their job."

He wanted to hire a guy who went 9-4 his first year with Al Golden's players and then dropped to 4-7 their next year. BC hiring the guy doesn't show he was right about anything yet.

Not the same thing. Our AD and others came to the table with a plan and asked for their help in financing it. That's different than someone who acts like a spoiled child and says 'you didn't ask my opinion and hire the guy I wanted so I'm not talking to you anymore'; i.e. "it's my ball and I'm going home" - that's someone who wants control over a program.

I am sure they came to him and asked him for financial help at one point in the past. The point is that he was right is what he said and time proved him to be correct.

he gets it but the SMU administration should be in complete control of the process. In this case a disappointed donor didn't get what he wanted-and he happened to be correct-that's tough. Probably another big donor didn't agree with Big Donor No. 1. Hopefully, our alumni collaborate well with our administration to make the best decision. Then we get to judge their performance on Ponyfans

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

This guy is a piker compared to some of our donors. Well, more power to him, but T. Boone Pickens he ain't.
