Yet he expected Dallas to flock to the stadium to see us play friggin' UCF just because we beat TCU.

I would still like to point out that the Jones contract isn't exactly public. Assuming that there would have to be a buyout at the end of the season is pure conjecture. I don't think we know for sure if that would be necessary.

Maybe someone knows more than I do, but I think it is safe to say either way, there are people who are part of the CoC who are frustrated, and everyone sees what Brown is doing and is putting pressure on the football staff to match it.

The fault lines of the CofC fall on three groups:

1. Older folks who were shell shocked after the death penalty - they see bowl games as a plus and don't want to rock the boat.

2. Guys in their 50's who are anxious but sit on the fence because they don't want to make a mistake.

3. The young guns who are tired of the mediocrity and want to make a change.

I believe the C of C money was well spent in bringing SMU out of the abyss. These are all smart and successful men. I doubt very seriously that they thought they could throw money at June Jones and the rest of our football future is secured in greatness. If a 2nd round of C of C cash infusion doesn't follow, then I'd have to say they wasted their money though...it needs follow through, and I believe it will happen.

+1 Agreed. Wasn't a waste, but certainly does need a 2nd round.

Had the chance to dump him when he went to ASU and now he is still dead man walking. Players want someone who is emotional and shows he cares Watched #17 lead the players out of the locker room after helftime. He started pumping his fist and then looked around and saw he was the only one, so he stopped. AND we were winning at that point

It's too bad for SMU that I'm not a multi-millionaire.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

As to #3.....go ahead and have at it. If the young guns feel that they can pull it off and carry it through successfully. Buck up!

We only have about 6000 undergraduates so we can't blame the students for not filling up a 32,000 seat stadium. Obviously you are a hard core JJ supporter trying to deflect the blame to the fans. TCU was in the same situation back in the late 90's as Reedfrawg pointed out. But they had some seasons with more than 6 or 7 wins and it drew more fans. June himself said that we have a lost generation out there so it will take a major season not just one decent win to bring that generation back. That along with being highly visible in the community.

Agreed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it take a little over a decade of consistent winning to turn TCU into Fort Worth's home team and consistently fill Amon Carter?

If that's true and using the same 'model', we need to win at or above the current level for another 5 years before people start viewing the Mustangs as a winner.

Anyway, if somebody has the time it would be interesting to look at TCU's turnaround, the level of competition they played against in Conference USA and their attendance throughout.

We have already had 5 years and I dare say TCU after 5 years was already way ahead of where we are now. As I have said before, with the rapid changes taking place in the college landscape I don't think we have much time left before we are permanently out of the race for a place in a top conference.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I would never call it a waste because I think we are in a much better position than we were 5 years ago. However, I would like to be able to say the same thing 5 years from now, and to do that we have a lot of work to do. It really depends on what level of success these men want and expect from SMU. I really have had a lot of fun with our team the last 4 seasons. On the other hand, I do look forward to having transcendent success. Right now, people at least know who we are and at least we are on the general landscape but I would like to be one of the it teams. I think people currently see us as a cute little team from the AAC with a great comeback story. I would like for people to say, those bastards are at it again and truly be upset about us stealing recruits from their program. Much like Kentucky fans are talking about us in basketball. That is the most telling sign. When is the last time a school was upset that they lost a recruit to us?
