I'm sure some of those feeling exist with UNT, UTSA, and some of the other insignificant fball programs that we have won recruits from. Only problem- sunbelt quality recruits generally aren't competitive in top level D1 fball.

Pretty impressive #s- in 16 yrs they are 142-56, last 5 yrs- 54-11. And we are struggling to get over/stay over .500. No wonder they have big fan support and we have the support of the 'die-hards'.

Are you guys for real? You really want to bully the CoC and senior alums that have been paying the way for decades? Geez, no good deed ever goes unpunished. My wallet is closed so you young guns feel free to pony up and carry the program. I'm putting a pool in my yard and I'll be thinking about you as I enjoy it.

What the hell are you smokin???????????????????????????????????????/ I don't think anybody said other CoC members should bully the 'more senior' members. They are all needed and they all need to pony up again for this program to have a chance to move up.

I'm referring to my earlier post which has been twisted by the JJ haters: No, I'm not a hardcore JJ fan. I am a hardcore SMU fan, and I think that the fan support for this team is shameful. No, I don't blame the fans for everything, but I still contend that it is difficult to write a big check to this program when there is no widespread support and our visiting recruits sit in an empty stadium on game day and wonders why no one would come to see them play in Dallas if they choose SMU. My wife argues with me frequently about whether the checks (modest ones) that I write to SMU athletics could be better spent on academic scholarships.
I want what everyone, mostly, on this board wants: a successful D 1 program that contends for BCS championship games. I have been donating to the program through thick and thin since the 70s including the years we did not suit up. I don't want a medal for that, a lot of people have done much more than my wife and I for SMU, but I truly believe that we aren't going to move up in the world until we prove that there is serious fan interest in this program.

topper- I really believe we will get butts in the seats when we can earn a similar record to what tcwho has done in the last 5-15 years. Or when we have an exciting and competitive product on the field. Compare the attitude of the fball fans with the bball fans. bball has created a lot of excitement just because they are trying like hell to build a top level program and their recruiting efforts/success is paying off. I think Moody will be packed with fans this year and if they get to a post season tourney expect SRO crowds. JMHO

as I've posted those numbers before-those numbers show that TCU had more support at 1-10 than SMU has after 4 years of Bowl games.

SMU Attendance Flat Under June Jones-No Improvement Even After 4 Bowl Games
2008--19,790 2009--21,814 2010--21,310* 2011--20,894 2012--21,292
* as I mentioned at the time SMU cooked the books by throwing in the 2010 Armed Forces Bowl which most certainly was not an SMU Home Game. However, including Armed Forces Bowl it was 23,515

Tcu is fort worth's team. Dallas has no allegiance to anyone.

Stallion is correct, but I also see something in the TCU stats that gives me hope: It is a long process to see any real growth in attendance from non-SMU folks and non-diehard fans.
TCU was at 23k when they were 1-10 (pretty much where we are now).
For 5 years after that, all with winning record years (including some 10 win seasons), TCU sat around 27/28k. So even with a winning record for 5 straight years, and two 10-win seasons, they only increased their attendance by 4-5k.
That is a manageable goal that we should strive for. But we have no 10-win seasons. No real attention. That is why we are lagging behind.

Games with Large Non-SMU affiliated crowds that have inflated attendance:
2008: 30,923 TCU 2009: 34,749 SFA (June Jones Bus Brigade-Operation Sellout) 2010: 35,481 TCU 2011: None 2012: 31,016 A&M 28,436 TCU
how many real SMU fans have we drawn since 2008? 18,000 per game? Take a look at 2012 and throw out the A&M and TCU games and its particularly embarrassing in the most recent year after 4 Bowl Games

We are what we are. 18,000 is about half our total DFW-based alumni population. IMO 40-50% attendance is pretty good. TCU wouldn't fill its stands either if it weren't for support and attendance by the surrounding community. I'm tired of the loyal fan bashing...SMU, you want more fans *points toward Dallas* there's where you 'll find them. I wouldn't blame a Dallasite one bit for not wanting to see an SMU game, we way we are now.
