What does ED think?I am curious to know what Eric Dickerson thinks of the current state of SMU football given that he was one of the key proponents of hiring June back in 2008 and makes appearances on the sideline at games from time to time. Say what you will about Orsini, but his move to re-engage Dickerson during the coaching search was well thought out. I would be interested to know how Dickerson feels about the direction of the program now.
Also, if I am Rick Hart, I would actively seek Dickerson's input on the next coach... Thoughts?

Re: What does ED think? There is a potential that firing JJ after 4 consecutive bowls would p#ss off people like ED who were strong proponents of his hiring.
ED is not as engaged as many on this board. He may fall into the category of those on the fringe who would think we were insane to can the most successful coach we have had in the last 25 years. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: What does ED think?ED thinks we should not schedule the hardest non-conference schedule in the country. Goal is to be 4-0 coming out of non-conference. Give the coaches a chance to be successful.
ED also thinks the administration and athletic department need to quit lying to the fan base about building an indoor practice facility. ED has heard for years how an indoor practice facility is going to be built real soon but has yet to see one. Meanwhile, our competition has one and better facilities too.
Re: What does ED think?
Give the team a chance to be successful and build confidence - We make it difficult on ourselves. It's not necessary. Our scheduling has been ridiculous.
Re: What does ED think?
Yep. I know they want to schedule old SWC foes in part because it brings their fans to fill up our stadium. I think they hope to get some fringe benefit of those fans' kids maybe enjoying coming to the games and thus build their fan base that way too. Problem is, when you get smoked in every one of those games, and go into your conference schedule looking like a dud team, nobody is coming back later in the season to watch you because they have no interest in watching. Meanwhile, you put the standard 18-20k in the stadium for 2 of your non-conference games, go into the conference schedule with at least a 3-1 schedule (halfway to a bowl appearance), and you'll have a little more buzz to ride out going into the conference schedule.
Re: What does ED think?maybe, just maybe if we had a coach who recruited worth a damn we could/would be competitive with some of our old SWC foes. If we want a patsy schedule then drop down to DII and forget big time fball.
By yr 6 we should have been able to compete with the TCUs and the TTs.

Re: What does ED think?
Good point, plus playing a coward's schedule in order to hide lousy talent doesn't guarantee this 4-0/3-1 everyone seems to think it will. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: What does ED think? It's funny how some people are just so blind [or naive, biased] that they don't even understand how to diagnose the actual cause to our football program's issues. The issue with the SMU football program into year 6 of JJ's cycle is NOT scheduling.
The issue is poor recruiting and outdated coaching schemes. My goodness, get a freaking clue. Many here just want to mask the problem at the beginning of the season that will ultimately be exposed regardless. If you want to play with the big boys, then get a coach here that will actually earn his $2mm/salary.
Re: What does ED think?
Oh, we get it. That's blatantly obvious. But until we step up our competitiveness (through recruiting, better coaching, etc), what's the point in getting taken to the woodshed by obviously superior teams that are better coached than we are, and with more talent than we have? Because as of right now, the point seems to be to get ourselves embarrassed multiple times early in the season.
