I follow him on Twitter. He tweets the generic "Go SMU" and "big expectations this year" but I would love to sit down with him over lunch and get his opinion on the state of our program, especially since his prominent role in Pony Excess. I share the opinion that we will learn a lot about this team on Saturday. A win would suggest that we could get a nice run going and go to another bowl game. A loss equals the season coming off the rails and we are probably looking at 3-9 or 4-8.

Yeah I bet ED loves to brag how we pulled out a squeaker against Montana St. or took Sam Houston St Monument to the woodshed. Geez

Early in the JJ hiring (and his involvement in it) we saw ED around campus before games and talked with him several times. Definitely big on Jones. Since the Arizona St. fiasco haven't seen him. My guess is that episode pissed him off just like the rest of us and he's gone MIA.

What the F does weak scheduling even accomplish?!? Who is this going to "buzz"? Oh boy, we get that extra win against very bad team that gets us to 8-4 which catapults us from the BBVA Bowl to the Pinstripe Bowl, where we'll get the hell beaten out of us by an old Southwest Conference rival, just like we would have been beaten if we played them in our OOC in the first place. Nobody cares about a 5-1 SMU team that just beat a decent TCU...about the same interest would be shown in an 7-3 SMU team whose only marquee wins are Tulsa and UCF. I just don't see the benefit. You're trading away attendance numbers and the chance to accomplish something for (maybe) the teeny tiniest blip on the local sports radar.

SMUer, its because they are part of the peanut gallery that enjoys never moving up in the world and embracing mediocrity for life. I rather be 7-5 with a split 2-2 of wins and losses with big 12 and sec teams than 12-0 beating up non P5 and FCS teams... but thats just me and the rest of the like-minded people who are making/made something out of themselves with the drive not to be mediocre.

If jones would have been recruiting hard for 6 years it wouldn't be an issue. This years OOC schedule would have been needed to get to a meaningful BCS game or crack the top 12 with our then CUSA schedule. Grow a pair. TCU and Tech were both winnable games. Baylor and aTm would have been the only killers on Orisini's schedule.

Bottom line we can't shy away from playing P5 teams. That's the only way Dallas and recruits are going to care about SMU football is if we start beating teams people have heard of

True, that's what these June lovers don't seem to get. Instead of wanting their hero to work harder they want us to play a bunch of junk to cover for his failings.

If you can't at least split you conference games (4 wins), plus your gimme-game, and pull off a win against at least one tough opponent, do you really deserve a post-season? To me, being sub-.500 in your conference but still feeling like you need to be rewarded because you beat up on an extra scrub is absurd.
