I know in the past you have mentioned how athletic departments inflate the bios of their players.
So is www.smumustangs.com taking it to an extreme when they post that James Mapps and Chase Smith chose SMU over OU, Todd Alexander, Jeff Brock and Ross Nigh chose us over Texas Tech, Adrian Haywood and Bryce Hudman selected us over A&M, Mitch Enright chose us over Ok State, Josh Hickman chose us over Iowa, Justin Willis selected us over K-State and Iowa State and about 7 of our freshman class selected SMU over Baylor?...(there are more, but you get the drift)
I thought the only player in this class to receive legitimate multiple BCS offers was David Allison.

Those schools listed look like the same schools listed in the PonyFans.com Recruiting Roundup. I would guess that in some cases, a guy might have chosen SMU over another school without necessarily having a scholarship offer from each of the other schools. However, there are also are cases every year when a guy is being recruited by a school and is expected to get an offer, but when he said he was going to SMU (or whatever school), the other ("bigger") school offers someone else. So I would guess there's some of each there: some chose SMU over legit offers, some chose over other schools that simply sent a recruiting letter. (On the the PF.com Roundup, it lists offers from schools .... i.e. Syracuse, etc., offering David Allison.)

From first hand knowledge David Allisons written offers came in the following order:
1. Colorado -- May of Junior year.
2. Syracuse -- Mid June prior to Senior year.
3. Baylor -- June prior to Senior year.
4. La-Monroe -- July prior to Senior year.
5. SMU -- Late July prior to Senior year.
6. UTEP -- December of Senior year.
Following Davids commitment to SMU in early September most schools cooled off, however some continued to try pursued him to change his mind. His commitment to the Ponies was SOLID from the very beginning & he is looking forward to becoming a part of the SMU family.

yeah I'd say just about every single alleged offer listed above -noting the Allison exception which I believe to be true-are totally inaccurate. Its my understanding that Baylor-not A&M may have offered Haywood. Also, there seems to be some evidence Tech offered, or at the very least was pursuing Haywood pretty strongly up until signing date. Baylor ,in particular, whipped us for just about every hot pusued recruits the two schools went up against each other for. Tulane got about 4 kids from Texas we really wanted too.

First of all, it doesn't say those guys received official scholarship offers from those schools. And if that WAS the claim being made -- which isn't stated anywhere there, counselor -- how would you claim to know which were accurate and which were inaccurate? Do you talk to the players? Do you talk to HS coaches? If a kid says he was offered by Central State Tech U, I would believe him. If he says he says he "considered" a school but doesn't mention an offer, I would assume he didn't get one. I don't think anyone is claiming that Chase Smith was offered by OU, Enright was offered by Oklahoma State or that Hudman was offered by A&M. All it said was that these guys considered those schools. If you want to debate someone's claim (of scholarship offers), fine. But in this case, you're debating claims that weren't even made.

Why are we ambushing Stallion?
www.smumustangs.com does insinuate that these recruits had an opportunity/offer to play for these BCS schools. Much like the statement I chose SMU over Harvard would lead people to believe that I made a conscious decision to go to SMU over Yale as opposed to the reality that Yale would have laughed at me so I took the SMU route.
The reality today is kids don't grow up dreaming of playing for SMU...they dream of OU, UT, A&M, etc. And if they have a real shot at fulfilling that dream, I can't see them saying no thanks I would rather play at SMU. At least not yet!

It's true that a lot of our guys probably had higher aspirations and the other part of this discussion is that although they may have been passed over for a scholarship, they may well have been encouraged by the coaching staff at those schools to "walk on" and invited to see if they might earn a scholarship somewhere down the road. That's a pretty common practice as well.
