Yea we definitely need to "whittle down" our fan base. I'd be happy with 30k horrible bandwagon fans.

I think I was the only one on row 8, 104. Mrydel had a flight to catch and John had wandered to a different seat.

Sometimes loving something means criticizing it. I believe JJ has crossed a point where he is now doing damage to SMU, and I've acted accordingly.

Re: RBA. I was a poster on here well before I dreamed up RBA, and I don't think starting a private spirit-group somehow removes my right or credibility in stating my dissatisfaction with our current state. My goal for RBA is to make the young (alumnae) fan experience more exciting and for our group to be a gathering point for SMU's loudest and most passionate fans. I figured if we all banded together, we could do some really cool things even if we are so few...and we have. But despite poor play and my personal feelings for the coach, RBA is still trying to do things. I'm still working hard to make cool things happen for the fans and the players, because I think they deserve it...and frankly, I think Dallasites need an edgier alternative to the grey-hair culture to get them in the stadium. I don't feel I am contradicting our mission by expressing my frustrations about June's effort, game prep or his recruiting. I'm also sympathetic to individuals who can't stomach this poor product. It doesn't change what I'm trying to do with RBA.

Also, we (Ponyfans) are the truest freaking group of fans that SMU has ever had, despite all odds. That's why "pathetic fans" this and "I'm a better fan than you" that sounds so stupid when it is posted on here. I know this is a place to vent but posters here are the wrong crowd to be criticizing or marginalizing. Great, 4000 of you have a higher crap-football gag tolerance than I do. Whoopideedo. If you aren't impressing me or many of the other fans in here, then you 're sure as heck not impressing unafiliated-guy, or first SMU/game-guy or Joe-Smoe-Dallasite. Those guys represent our 10,000 empty seats we need to fill Ford...not some huge, fictional base of pathetic SMU fans that don't go to home games but frequently log onto Ponyfans.

Not even close. The worst "fans" were the guys sitting in front of us who asked 3 of our freshmen football players (who were dressed in street clothes) to move because they were standing in the front row and (presumably) obscuring their view.

My wife and I were with PK in Section 104, Row 4, and as always, there to the bitter end. Great comeback, team showed real character, just wished we could have closed the deal.

30K banging those seats would be awesome.

It's quite simple, the three step process:

1) win the big games
2) recruit top talent worthy to mention
3) get a Larry brown style football coach

It's not begging fans to come to mediocre football or in the case of sunshiners, blaming the fans rather than the real problem (JJ)

My $.02

1) I am not as critical as others to those who left early, at least they showed up.

2) I think SMU missed a golden opportunity to market our FB program after the Nevada bowl victory. There was momentum not only with the team, but JJ and recruiting as well. We must do another Mustang Mania campaign, but only when the team is on the upturn. Unfortunately, this will only occur once JJ leaves; he has shot his wad here.

3) I recall a game in 1982 or 1984 at Texas Stadium early in the season against TCU. Wacker was HC. It was most definitely AFTER Mustang Mania. Game drew some 55,000 as I remember the upper deck end-zone sections were mostly full. TCU was not that good a team back then, yet always played us tough. I remember thinking at the time, 'this game has finally arrived as an important event'.

See, that's how it works. You actually DO something, then you change the way people think.

We may not agree on politics but I sure as hell agree with that. I'll still be [deleted] if we go down 21-0 in like the first quarter

Agree. For 3 quarters this team laid dog squeeze on that turf. My nephew and I decked ourselves out in SMU blue, and we were hopeful for a win, even with no evidence of that on the horizon.. We showed up, the Team unfortunately showed up about the time we left. I would have still stayed except my nephew stupidly left his jacket at home, so he wore mine. I froze my arse off for 2 plus hours in the cold wind and mist. No sweatshirts or jackets available for sale. Besides the awesome Blue Jerseys, this Effing Sucked! I will still be back again, but everybody has their limits. We reached ours. We left pi$$ed.

I think I almost fell over the rail in 104... I don't remember much shortly after the game...

Who saw the older lady in the handicapped section between 204/104 who was dancing and waving the M flag? She was great!

She was great; also I want that flag. The Diamond-M is so gothic and cool.

We have the worst fans in college football, no question about it. My high school games had crowds double that size. Truly pathetic and it will never change.

I did not say anything about your criticism, I expressed surprise that you left early. Two different things.
