Yeah, Morris would be a good get but with the money he's making he can afford to wait for a P5 job. The CoC could always browbeat him with money but there's other perks the P5 offers that we just can't touch (conference branding, large fanbase, facilities).

I love it when some one destroys the Conventional Wisdom with facts. This thought on ponyfans that SMU has to hire a grizzled veteran head coach is overblown and demonstratively false. The facts are overwhelming that isn't the case. Point out a school in the Southwest (I'm ahead of you-except for SMU since DP) and I'll show that their best hire was not a grizzled veteran

And plenty of Cavan's/Bennetts to wade through trying to find the home-runs. It would sure be nice if we could hit that home-run. We've sure waited long enough!
It's almost like a "diamond in the rough" head coach search.......

We have raised $780 million greenbacks since 2011. Let's just spend $30 million on a top coach and staff at $6 million a year. It's what we do

I have brought it up before and it may seem to others like a personal crusade, but it is worth bringing up again. Brian Schottenheimer, the Offensive Coordinator with the STL Rams and son of Marty Schottenheimer, should be in the conversation for head coach. There are too many positives to ignore.
Brian has a history of being a successful quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in the NFL. He is doing well coordinating the current Ram's offense, which is the youngest team in the league this year.
He could bring his dad with him as the Defensive Coordinator as good measure. Marty's winning percentage over many years as an NFL coach is excellent, which proves he is a winner. The Schottenheimer name is well known, Marty has successfully tutored numerous current and past NFL head coaches and they have a lot of professional contacts that could prove valuable.
The Schottenheimers also have a close relationship with the Hunt family from Marty's years as a coach for the Chiefs.

We have an ex NFL coach now and look at our recruiting. Do we really want ex NFL coaches with no prior college HC experience?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

He has interviewed for a few head coaching jobs in the NFL within the last couple of years. Obviously, he is doing something right to be considered for a head coaching position in the NFL.

Depends on the guy and his willingness to embrace what it takes to win in the collegiate game (recruiting). We'd be better served going getting a current college assistant/HC, someone that already understands the game and is willing to put in the work necessary to build the program.
