If SMU gets rid of June Jones...don't expect us to win any more...we need him and if we would have listened to his recommendations and recruited the kids he wanted to bring in...we might have gotten things changed around already and not be in a 7-7 rut
He posted this shortly after
"I agree with your statement. SMU needs a new coach, but I appreciate what June Jones has done for our program. We need that new charismatic coach that will take us 12-0 and nationally ranked."

"SMU Alumni 11" would like a word with you.
As would abu, Jason B (or as I like to call him now, "Mr. 9-3"), and PlanoStang
I'd throw 86 in there, but he at least seems like a nice guy, even though his head is so far up his asss he can munch on his epiglottis. Actually, yeah, he belongs there too

Will be interesting to see how this plays out during the season. PonyBoy took a spill in the polls with a few rational posts, but there's plenty of time to bounce back. FeelTheHorsePower is a new face in the polls, but he has come on strong and has the voters convinced that he is the real deal.

Duke long ago relaxed admin standards for basketball and in the Cutcliffe era is similarly relaxed for football. It is not an issue.
I have watched a lot of SMU games coached by JJ and Duke games coached by Cut. I've never been embarrassed by a Cut team failing to show up for the opening whistle, and I've lost count the number of times that's happened with JJ teams.

Is '86 not listed in the poll due to improper benefits violations? He's normally a power to be reckoned with

1. MustangsAbu (#1 on history and name brand; kind of like how UT is always in the top 25 preseason poll)
2. FeelTheHorsePower (Couple of big moves as of lately)
3. PlanoStang (Innovator of the "Emogi-Raid" JJ Defense )
4. PonyBoy (Former No. 1 however is in a rebuilding year)
5. JasonB (No offense all defense; VaTech/Beamer ball, relies on special teams)
I don't like rankings that end in even numbers that are not a 0 or odd numbers that are not a 5 so I'm leaving it at that... (Note this post was made in good fun... do not take it personally if you made the top 5 or are mad that you didn't make the top 5)

nice work. we should collaborate for a release of the weekly poll. At least a select few can achieve their dreams of cracking the top 25 in something.

Thanks for your input, haven't had the chance to watch any Duke football but I can't remember any point in my lifetime (25 years) of when they were good or had a winning record until last season and so far this season (not trying to be offensive). Really just trying to illustrate my point on facilities and winning.

We need more polls; AP, Coaches, BCS, etc. haha! Should be a thread on this subject; in good fun of course. I certainly don't mean for this to be personal as I appreciate each and every PonyFan, in turn I'd be happy to see some of their polls as well!
I find my opinions to be for the most part rational.
I have never been one to blindly jump on bandwagons. I see the anti-June rhetoric on this message board as a blight on our athletic department. I support SMU as much as anyone in the world. I want them to succeed, and I see many problems with the state of affairs. But I don't harbor any ill will toward anyone. I believe that June Jones believes in what he does. I respect the ideas behind his approach to football. I see it failing to work here to the extent I wish it would. I am frustrated by this. But I don't see any point and would find it to fall far short of my personal standards to cast aspersions at any individual charged with doing a job, especially one I have never been tasked with.
June could go after every top recruit out there, and have the staff fully geared in such pursuit. And I can believe, from my position of relative ignorance, that this could be hugely beneficial to the program, if such efforts met with the right level of success. That is clearly not the way June operates. He recruits the athletes that he recruits, and he is, I am sure, fully versed in the possible effects of failure to obtain results on the field. There is also the chance that a different coach with "better" athletes would not achieve even the "mediocre" success with which June is regularly whipped. There is a notion floating around these boards that an aggressive recruiter "will" take us to the next level. I would argue that there is as good, of not better, of a chance that JJ will take us to the next level if he ever gets a 4 year QB. Imagine we had GG back next year with a more experienced OLine, and more experienced RBs?
Nothing in this world is certain. And until it is I will make my own mind up about what I think of the state of our athletic programs. The potential that I continue to see in June Jones is every bit as valid as the heretofore untested other options being bandied around these threads, and it is balanced by a belief that there may well be a better other option out there. I just feel that the people who will be making the big decisions would be well advised to steer clear of PonyFans.com.
