Re: Attendance problems aren't specific to SMU
I just find it interesting that SMU and TCU have such a large out of state student population. Does anyone know if Baylor is the same way? My initial guess is no.

SMU...43% of the entering class is from Texas.Nacho wrote:http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/texas-christian-university-3636

SMU is a little bit more balanced...49% of undergraduates are men.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

School’s out, orientation is underway and the Class of 2016 is shaping up.
Geographical Demographics
For the first time since 1979, TCU’s freshman class Texan population is projected to be less than 50 percent. This will bring the total TCU Texas population to around 61 percent Brown said.
"It was not a goal to get to where we are with fewer than 50 percent Texans," Brown said.

It would help if SMU would concentrate on getting more in state kids than out of state, but that is stating the obvious

Attendance at football games should be the number one priority when deciding on which demographic to recruit.lwjr wrote:It would help if SMU would concentrate on getting more in state kids than out of state, but that is stating the obvious

Do out of state students attend games with less frequency than in state students?lwjr wrote:It would help if SMU would concentrate on getting more in state kids than out of state, but that is stating the obvious

They usually don't stay put in Dallas when they graduate...so yes, it impacts home attendance

I should have been more clear but SMUer made my point. The majority of the in state kids stay in state when they graduate and that translates to more alumni that hopefully will support and attend gamestristatecoog wrote:Do out of state students attend games with less frequency than in state students?lwjr wrote:It would help if SMU would concentrate on getting more in state kids than out of state, but that is stating the obvious
