See, the SMU basketball team is following #2 as well. ACC basketball is CUSA 2.0. We're not making the mistake of playing the top rated teams for our OOC games. We're only playing a couple good teams, and the rest is equal or lesser competition... something our football team has just now started to learn from. If you want to argue about what fixes the football team? Great, have at it. However, more fans in a stadium doesn't fix a team's winning record. The people on the team do.

it was our former AD (Copeland) who made the schedules - not the football coaches

Which is exactly why we need to improve the caliber of the people on the team so we won't have fans wanting to run away from relevant competition (the kind that can get Ford filled).

I'm expecting to see a lot of TCU and UNT on future non-conference schedules and I'm O.K. with that, but sure hope we keep mixing in Baylor and TTech. Not sure who that other "non power 5" might be. I would expect some UTSA, TX State, UTEP, Rice or even Arky State or La Tech on future schedules. Between the SunBelt and CUSA, there are plenty of local FBC opponents. We really don't need to schedule FCS schools if we schedule the other guys home/home

I could settle for a 1) UNT 2) Texas state 3) Texas tech 4) TCU kind of schedule for 2 years but after that it needs to be like the OCC we just had and actually win some against teams that matter.

UL with its weak schedule is ranked no. 8 in the AP poll. Gosh, I wish we were no. 8.
Larry Brown said yesterday or today that his future recruiting success would depend on a packed Moody. Packed Moody equals top notch recruits. So how do you fault JJ 's recruiting? How, exactly, is he supposed to sell something that no talented players want? How does he sell playing for a school with an empty stadium? How is a subsequent coach going to be able to sell something no one wants? My prediction is new coach, same poop, different year.

the difference is that LB went out and recruited top level players, has created a lot of excitement and now expects fan results. JJ has never recruited the level of players that LB has and still expects fans to show up for his dull apathetic games. IMO there is a world of difference. Look at the difference in coaches that are recruiting- no comparison- LB wins hands down.

Looking back at our 'great teams' featured out of conference powers against Tulane, Grambling, Utep, UTA, and North Texas.

we only need 7,000 dedicated fans to make Moody special. Surely we have some burned out football loyalists who are ready to join the 1,500 and support bball as well. SMU has an opportunity to become something special on the hardwood

I'm not saying we should permanently have a cupcake schedule, but at this point in time WE CANNOT COMPETE WITH BCS TEAMS. You are absolutely delusional if you think losing by 40 points to A&M, Baylor etc. does anything whatsoever for our program. Now if we have to continue to schedule them so that we are able to play them years down the road, that is completely reasonable.
Until we are at a point where we are good within our sh*t conference, I think trying to schedule multiple Big 12/SEC teams is fairly dumb. Trust me, I want us to beat the relevant teams as much as anyone, but the fact of the matter is, we just aren't good enough and getting dominated for the first few games of the season doesn't exactly bring in fans or recruits.
The real problem is that we have a lazy recruiting staff unwilling to put in the work to bring in players capable of being competitive with the teams people care about. Until that happens, I vote no to losing multiple games by 6+ touchdowns. And the problem is, whether you are beating southwest montana state technical institute or losing to baylor, a&m, etc. by 40+ points - no one gives a crap about your program.

Remember our team is adapting to becoming a pass heavy offense. We do a pretty good job taking the ball down the field and I believe by 2017-2018 we will have a Texas Tech-Baylor type offense. We have to focus on Defense...because that's really our achilles heel! Having a lethal defense is what has kept TCU from not being blown out (20-17 vs OU, 20-10 vs Tech) and their defense won our game to keep us at 10 points on the half. SMU defense has allowed TTU to put 41 points on us SMU defense has allowed mediocre TCU to put 48 points on us SMU defense has allowed Texas A&M to put 42 points on us SMU defense has allowed Rutgers to put 55 on us SMU defense has allowed an FCS team score 30 on us Defense anyone? TTU has always had an explosive offense and a shotty defense...this year they stepped up and kept TCU at 10, us at 23.

There is no way to tell what we will be in 2017-2018. None of the current coaches or players will be here.
Back off Warchild seriously.
