Question RE: New Tennis Facility

Postby StallionsModelT » Mon Oct 14, 2013 2:41 pm

Got a question regarding the new tennis facility being built at the intersection of Central and Mockingbird across from the retail center.

What is the price tag on that facility? From the renderings it looks like a first-class facility that will be among the finest in the country. Did we have a lead donor on this thing? Just wondering how much it'll cost to build it.

BTW, that will make for a very dramatic and beautiful structure that is easily visible from Central. Between the tennis facility, the Bush Center, and the new dorms, SMU is finally starting to become bold and distinctive.

Thanks.

Agree the Tennis Complex and Dormitory Complex will be a good advert for SMU, highly visible. Bold, yes, but SMU has always been distinctive and arguably the most beautiful campus in Texas. A good master plan and leadership has prevented some bad mistakes that other campuses have made. Bush Complex and Landscaping there are first class. Now if our football team...oh, well, that's another discussion.

Have they actually started building it, or is it still just a vacant lot?

Constructing foundation now.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Still no one knows how much it is projected to cost?

Well they were also building the adjacent data center...that's been going up for months.
