And it is worse when they are reading the book while we are blitzing. I think you may not realize we are blitzing more than you think. We are just not that good.

He might be getting out coached or out schemed but it seems ridiculous to say he is not trying. You have no proof of that. I have questioned our playcalling on offense all year but would never accuse a coacj of not trying. They just aren't wired that way....your argument makes no sense.

Do you watch our games? How can a guy who consistently gave us a Top 60 defense suddenly sink down to <100 defensive coach with better players? Life crisis, professional funk, catching the spirit of the general ennui of our sideline, whatever...it isn't being out-schemed. If he was being out-schemed, he'd try blitzes that didn't work or he's have his defense go to one place when the offense goes to another. That's not what is happening. Instead, we don't blitz, or do anything exotic to try to establish a pass rush. We left them throw-at-will and pray our shoe-string tackling secondary can make a play. It's an anemic defense.

That may be. If so then boy, we are bad. Blitzing that is almost totally recognizable as blitzing...you really think that's what is going on?

1. competition
2. too much was expected from too many young players who hadn't done jack in college football-fueled by SMU flag-football observers and commentators that overlooked the importance of maturity and experience-that crap about being better than last year on defense was ridiculous

Baylor (away), A&M (home), TCU, SFA << Tech (home), A&M (away), TCU, MSU

Really?!? I think the competition is about the same as last year, if not easier.

Maybe a lot was expected from the new guys but they aren't all RS-FR...presumably they know the system after two-three years. I feel like I should at least recognize unsuccessful, frantic attempts at a pass rush. Minor, Pope, Sanders, Joyner...these guys should be more than capable at causing problems for the opposing QB. Hard to believe we've been more effective with less over-all talent. A 50 place drop-off is a head-scratcher.

go back and check our defensive statistics last year at this time-not much better. Baylor had over 700 yards on us last year. A&M ran all over us. The big difference is that we played TCU in a monsoon last year which made our defensive stats look better than they actually were. Rutgers is much better than UTEP who we shutout so our defensive numbers are going to be worse this year. They will magically, mysteriously begin to get better
