Chauncey Briggs
Enjoyed watching him on the field at Memphis. I didn't get a chance to tape and parse the game as some did, but it looked like he did a pretty good job, especially against the really well thought of Memphis lineman. I was really surprised listening to his interview that this was his first start. Hope for good things from him.

NG Nick Reed had his first big play too. A deep sack in the 4th Q

Would be nice if Reed could step up and be a player at NT. If we could go Wright, Reed, and Hollie three deep at NT next year that would be solid depth at a key position in the 3-4

For his first career start, I thought Briggs did great. Here's how you know an offensive lineman has a decent game: you never hear his name on the broadcast. I know he said in PP's interview that the sack was his fault, but I didn't hear the announcers talking about him getting whipped or getting penalties.
I also don't understand offensive line play as well as some of the others on here. Anyone else see things I didn't?

I really liked his enthusiasm. Not just happy to start but with getting after the other team.

I think he has a lot of upside. The benefit of him playing well THIS year, is that it allows us to move Gottschalk to guard.

Re: Chauncey Briggs
After watching the interview with Briggs on the home page, I went back through the game in fast forward mode. He looked solid.
So the big question is with Sam coming back, does Ben go back to tackle? Does Briggs stay in and Sam goes to RG?
Nice to have options for a change.

I think you put Rice at guard and leave Gottschalk at guard. Hughes is a backup. Too bad Ashcraft isn't working out and we can't get Myers more PT (he was the most highly regarded recruit out of all of them).
Re: Chauncey Briggs
I don't recall even seeing Ashcraft on the sideline Saturday. Meyers sure looks the part.
Re: Chauncey Briggs
Briggs and Myers look like they are going to be good players for SMU. Glad Klemm got them to commit to SMU.

Re: Chauncey Briggs
Briggs and Weeks looked the best at tackle in fall camp.
Rice really struggled this year. The games I watched in slow motion, I thought he and Lasecki actually missed the most blocks. Hughes has been surprisingly decent.
I think we should keep the line the same - it has been better than any point this season from the 4th quarter of Rutgers on.
The backup line with Ashcraft and Myers at tackle, and Rice and McCarty at guard gives us better depth than we have had in a while.
