Not sure if that is because the team is getting more used to the offense, or if it is because we are more confident with the o-line, but I think that is what is allowing us to throw down the field a little more.
JJ used "the walk" to shorten the game because the offense wasn't effective and he didn't want the defense on the field the whole game.
Is that you June?

JJ took over play calling duties the second half of the Rutgers game and then all of Memphis. That being said I have to disagree with this thread seeing as how the offense played a lot better with JJ making the calls

From what I have read, Mumme's passing offense is significantly more similar to the spread offenses high schools run compared to the Run 'N Shoot. I think this is why we are seeing more guys get an opportunity to get on the field. Mumme's addition to the staff has decreased the players learning curve. I think this is also why we were able to move to a more up tempo offense (removing the walk of shame), because guys like Taylor can come in and spell the starting 4 WRs.
As far as dysfunction goes... Does anyone know what happened with Sanders running immediately out of bounds on Saturday after fielding a kick or punt (sorry don't remember which)? Was it a broken play?

I don't think that a statement that the reason he was making QBs walk to the sideline was to eat time in the game to rest the defense because our offense was not very good is a supportive statement of June.
I have no idea if JJ took over playcalling duties, but if he did that would explain the change from side to side to down the field.

Art Briles comes from an Air Raid background and his team leads NCAA in Passing Efficiency and Yards Per Completion-any coach that doesn't stretch the field in a passing offense is living in the past.

I think the more downfield play calling is 100% due to having time, since we are playing easier teams. The short game was a "stay alive" strategy when playing teams loaded up with Big 12 recruits. They either had pressure on us or downfield coverage, or both.
Now we have time, because we are playing bottom half teams, and everyone will come out saying this or that is getting better. Nothing is getting better but the schedule.

Before we get to that, why did we try and go for a 1st half onside kick when June never told special teams to do so?

No clue. It looked more like the kicker wanted to kick the 20 yd pooch because he thought front two rows of the return teams were cheating back. I looked at the replay and didn't see the return team bailing out early. So I got nothing for you.

On the Sanders kickoff return, we were in a "good hands" return in anticipation of an onside kick. There was no blocking support for Sanders on the return. He was right in front of where I was sitting and he gave some hand signals to the sideline and they responded. My guess is they said if Memphis kicked deep just catch the ball and go to the sideline. I could understand from a safety factor but he could have cut upfield and gotten considerably more yards so my guess is he just took the order to go to the sideline too literally and is probably getting jeered loudly in the film room.

They do look better but it is amazing how close the db's at top d1 schools play compared to the below-average teams. Between June, timmy Chang and Mumme ...one would hope for some innovation. More receivers playing and catching passes are good too.

The Run-N-Shoot is a read and react system in which the receivers read the defense and run routes accordingly. Last season, defenses disguised coverage and scrambled our routes at times. This might account for some of our success this, although I'm open to other suggestions.
We also seem to be dropping a few less balls this year.
If we had a better run game to threaten defenses with, we might have two more wins than we do (Tech & Rutgers).
