What a joke.
Agreed and USC was only involving one player.

Unbelievably funny but would never happen. Even if we did it only to make a statement. I wish our school had some edge to it...ESPN would love it.
And so agree, the fact that we haven't sued for selective enforcement is a joke and a huge blunder by our administration. Probably has cost this school BILLIONS in financial/tuition losses.
I think we should sue for reparations.

Why cheat? It isn't like this university is a juco located in El Paso. SMU has just not marketed itself to the people of the North Texas area, much less Texas. Poor vision at the top unless your vision is of a snob school for a few rich kids from around the country to attend and have a good time for a few years before going back home. What a waste!

Dr. Kenneth Pye was just as responsible as the NCAA, for SMU's athletic programs going in to the abyss. . . Hate being disrespectful of people who have passed on. But in Kenneth Pye's case, I will make an exception. . . A-hole did everything in his power, to try killing off all of SMU's athletic programs. If I knew where he was buried, I would give deliberate and serious consideration to urinating on his grave.

ponyinNC wrote:Honest question- with the amount of $ some of our boosters have, and with the lack of any real consequences from the NCAA- why aren't we paying recruits?
Miami received their penalty today for the Nevin Shapiro mess....a whopping 9 scholarships over a 3 year period. They did self impose a 2 year bowl ban- which really doesn't matter if you happen to stink at that point anyway.
Let's go back to pony excess. Why not? We have the means.
I'm actually surprised they got anything at all. The NCAA could have laid the wood on them but they screwed up the investigation and made most of their evidence inadmissible when they paid that lawyer to get the incriminating information from Shapiro. Then again, it could have been that they wanted that to happen so that they wouldn't have to do anything to the university.

We were just ahead of our time. You notice when the big boys get caught the sports media and NCAA circles the wagons and starts talking about how schools need to start paying players to play.
What's changed since 1986 - bit the rules. The only thing that is changed is that schools learned not to fight, self impose the lowest penalty possible to leave room for the NCAA to tack a small extra penalty on top (if they impose any penalty at all), then laugh all the way to the bank.
Too bad we didn't play the game and actually took our violations seriously. Then by actually playing by the rules we get excluded from the club.

Is this tongue and check ... or are you really serious you want to cheat? Are we talking about the old fashion admin turn a blind eye ... see no evil hear no evil and programs go for it, or institutional supported. All in the name of win at all cost ... and we point to others we assume are (pointing to bad behavior to justify bad behavior). We really want to sell our soul to the devil again to get all we want. I'm really not a preachy type, sorry ... but You hear this LORD, we don't feel we have been Blessed and are not getting are fair share, so we are shopping elsewhere.
No thanks, count me out. Goes against everything I believe, how I run my own business, and how I raised my kids. Nothing is worth my integrity and character.

Honestly if we arent in a P5 conference and are forced into the pseudo FCS (MW, CUSA, AAC), then why dont we all just back out of ncaa for football hell even basketball and just pay players... i mean at least we can compete ridiculously. Sad thing though is if we were to secede, Im sure the P5s would to keep their 5 stars...

at least the "trolls" don't cut and paste the same thing in multiple threads and are somewhat coherent when they do post.

Integrity? Sorry, I thought we were talking about college football and the NCAA. Integrity left the building many many years ago bud.
