When JJ made the comment about the Hawaii Bowl last year while we were still in the championship picture there were evidently many emails sent to Rick Hart. Hart then tweeted our goal is the conference championship a day or two after JJ made that statement. Then JJ started saying his his goal was the championship no matter what bowl it was held at.

Just letting you what the players were told and what their stated objective was. Maybe Hart told JJ to simplify the message in order clear-up the confusion and negative concerns ... and it's not your decision JJ to blow off the Liberty bowl in favor of Hawaii if we win the conf champ. Don't know, I just know what the players were told ... they never thought they were not playing for a conf champ ... at least not the ones I have spoken with then and now.

Does not really matter now, and I'm not trying to stir a debate one way or the other ... just shedding some light from the players point of view.

I repeat. Can someone direct me to the real SMU website :?:

Players who work their butts off going to school, and playing football haven't learned how to the
read the internet or paper to see where they are in the standings.

It's telling that a wacky premise like this can generate discussion.

You're saying we shouldn't be honest about our program because the players will see and get sad?

Drop it. It's insulting to them to think they're so naive.

The players laugh at the stuff written on here.

Does no one find it strange and inconvenient that not a single anti-June quote from a player or ex-player has ever been used to substantiate claims on here?

June is loyal to the players he recruited and signed. He is a players coach. So the players should be supportive of June even if the team went 0-12. Granted the players that got kicked off the team a few years ago might disagree. But that still does not mean 6-6 should be acceptable after 6 years.

Coming from being 0-12 and 1-11...I think after 6 years being .500 is okay...it's not bad...but we can surely do way better. I'd give JJ another shot next year when our guys get more experience and our new 2014 class comes in.

Next year we lose our starting QB, 2 WR's, both CB's and our best O Lineman in Gottschalk. Have you seen the 2014 incoming class? Hardly any kids with lower level BCS offers.

We have Neil Burcham...more accurate and confident than GG and our D and O lines become soph/juniors...battle tested

And we lose our starting safety as well. We really don't know how accurate NB is because he hasn't played in the fog of war yet. And again the class coming in does not have very many players with lower level BCS offers.

We have heard NB is very accurate, and has been through the system, he is in fact the first quarterback to come through the system the way he is supposed to. I also theming that with greater experience on both lines we will be more effective on both sides of the ball.

And we would not expect players to start playing immediately unless they are studs like Zelt.
