Cougars were not bullies, just sleazoids from the top down.

I didn't see the Aledo game so I can't say if they dropped bombs or not. I can say that UH was dropping bombs all day which just shows they were a-holes. That doesn't mean they were bullies about it. The 1989 freshman took it as a sign to improve and beat UH as seniors.

I don't call it bullying. And I don't want a mercy rule like 6-man.

Something that I don't like about the UIL though is there are schools placed in a sports classification like 5A but the interest in football for the school is smaller like it's a 3A school. I think that football classifications need to be looked at separately from other sports.

I watched a certain school get placed in 3A in 1982 and despite protesting it the UIL said no and placed the team in 3A and have kept them there all these years where the school lost a lot of games. The school didn't have much interest in football and played at a 2A size for many years. Even in 2004 the school finally managed to get 28 on the varsity roster and played a team that moved from 2A to 3A that year with 48 on the roster!

In 2012 the school had finally reached 36 on the roster but are now on the edge of being 4A where the football team is not ready for a full 4A schedule. It's a band school now a football powerhouse school.

Maybe that is what is happening at schools like FW W Hills. Maybe the enrollment is a 4A enrollment but a big (in numbers) sport like football has only the football interest (and ability) of a small school in class 2A or 3A.

I'm interested in seeing what the UIL does now that 6A is coming.

Unbelievable, a parent would be ignorant enough to file a bully complaint because little Jonny's football team got their butts whipped by a much better football team. What a pitiful reflection on this parent and the pitiful lesson he or she is teaching their son. It makes me wonder if this parent always sees themselves as a victim.
The Aledo coach obviously did not enjoy what happened. The Western Hills coach understands and has no ill feelings toward the Aledo coaches. IMO, the lesson the FWWH coaches teach their players, You got your rear end kicked all over the field Friday night, what did you learn and what will you do about it?

Because there was a formal complaint to the Aledo principal regarding bullying, I am sure that he and the school district's lawyers will need to write a formal response to the charge and describe in detail any/all action plans to remediate the problem. Further, all of the players might have to under go some form of counseling for first time offenders - depending on the school district's policy.

Think about the time and money that this parent just forced the school district to spend.

I'm guessing the parent doesn't care.

I'm sure they don't. But if I was a tax payer for that school district, it would make me rip snortin' mad.

I wonder if the parent actually attended the game. Maybe it's in the article. If so, she would hopefully realize that it wasn't bullying.

I believe that sportsmanship has come a long way since 1989.

A mercy rule should be considered in my opinion. Humiliation and demoralization does not build character.

Calling a game once it hits 60 pts seems reasonable

Agreed. If it is a 60 point lead to call it off would seem reasonable.

Are you talking about one team's points or looking at the spread between the two teams' point totals? Anyway you do it it is going to be an arbritary number that some will want to argue about after it is determined.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
