These stories are frequent and are absolutely unacceptable and it serves as evidence to the apathetic views June has on recruiting. I for one can't wait till he leaves SMU cause only then will we recruit better and become more competitive. it's been said hundreds of times on here, recruiting (talent) is the key factor in college football success.

I fully understand the recruiting argument and serious questions have been raised. That said, I read those stories and assume for some reason the staff no longer wanted to recruit those particular kids. Whether that is wise or not is a separate issue, but the fact that our staff fail to follow up or stay in contact with a kid does not lead to only one conclusion.

I would point out that our classes are always full so obviously there are numerous kids that the staff does stay on top of.

Why do you try so hard to defend June? You really go out of your way.. And we don't stay on top of any kids. If you look at our commits, their best offer is SMU. Most of them have us as their only offer. Others have us along with UNT, UT-SA offers. This tells me that we're not recruiting and the players are just doing whats in their best interests and picking their best option.

I don't care that he gets in by 5 am. How do you know he doesn't leave by noon? The hours are worthless, even if he puts in 1 hour or 12 hours a day, if the result doesn't bare any fruits. It's not how long you work, it's about how efficient you are with the hours that you work. The results are we are 2-4 overall and with an abysmal recruiting class. If you want evidence, what more evidence do the june jone supporters need than that? He's clearly not putting in the right effort. He's lazy in recruiting, and his offensive book is recycled from a 1980s game plan.

We've come full circle with Jones.

Mustangsabu wrote:And on the point of how much time June (and his staff) put into recruiting, I couldn't tell you that either. But I certainly wouldn't feel right claiming it was a lot, or a little. I have no idea what recruiting needs in terms of time. Perhaps some of the recruiting aficionados on ponyfans can enlighten me. How many hours does Nick Saban spend a day or a week on recruiting? I'd genuinely like to know. Certainly if I'm going to have to read about how Junes "doesn't" recruit.

If June puts as much effort into recruiting as you claim, he is the worst recruiter in the history of college football.

June Jones is the master of the rebuild and from getting the most from lesser talent. I don't understand why we can't just let that be and enjoy the guy without 24 x 7 hate and vitriol. His job is done and he's leaving. Relax.

I do agree with you ponyboy. I think overall he probably gets more from less talented players. It is just so frustrating to everyone that the staff seems to think that because of that, they might as well just field a team of diamond in the rough recruits that he can coach up to be ok rather than taking the bull by the horns, getting decent talent, coaching them up and really doing something special.

Been a Jones critic since 2011 {UCF editorial critical of SMU fan support/ coaching fiasco with Arizona St}. I have to respectfully disagree with you as far as JJ "not being a good college football coach." JJ is a decent football coach when he is so motivated to be. He's just a very poor recruiter of football talent.

Apparently we offered a '14 left tackle TJ Heston out of Plano East. No rivals profile, no scout profile, no 247 profile.....
