Out At End of Season

Postby smumustang1980 » Thu Oct 24, 2013 8:02 pm

Without naming names, and I cannot, I will say that a well placed source and a member of a certain group that defrays a certain coach's salary has disclosed to me in a conversation today that a coach we all love and respect is definitively out at the end of the season. I am curious as to how the season will play out... Again, this is not a rumor and comes from an exceptionally reliable source. I apologize to my beloved SMU for having leaked this, but what the hell. So Larry Brown is out?

Since this is the football forum I would think not.

Can't believe that unnamed group would pay a soccer coach that much in the first place

Your "well placed source" told you wrong. Losing season maybe.. but probably not. See you at the game Saturday rain or shine.

If he's not gone the damage to the program and the fanbase will be that much more irreparable. I fully expect him to be gone, and if he's not then there's probably not much reason to think SMU gives a damn about ever being a decent football program ever again.

'75 I will be at the game as well. What credibility should I lend your statement that my source was wrong, when my source is a member of the COC - if he does not know what's going on who would? Are you saying (a) Turner and Hart are not being faithful to the COC members, or (b) the COC members are not being faithful among themselves?

1980, operating under the validity of your source, is it safe to assume then that some sort of a plan is developing regarding how to actually move forward? Not expecting details of course, I'll just sleep better knowing that the people that matter are actually getting their ducks in a row to make legitimate progress and not just reacting to the disappointment that has been the tail end of JJ's tenure. Hopefully I'll see some of y'all at the game Saturday; I'll be there plus 3.

I think the conservatives on the COC have been moved from their perch. These are people with substantial experience in making good business judgments. We have all made mistakes in business and perhaps this was one of them - who knows? I think everyone has been disappointed by the performance, however he did turn the program around. The death penalty and the scandal continue to haunt everyone's decision making.

Many want to ensure SMU conducts itself with the highest ethical standards and is not seen as a football crazy school. Having said this, I believe the Larry Brown experience has given them the impetus for change and the excuse. SMU must go in the right direction without being seen as firing a man who unquestionably turned around a moribund football program. JJ is a good man, he just has professional limitations. I am certain he is gone at the end of the season. The joker in the deck is whether or not he goes without making a mess. I understand his agent is out trying to sell the story that it is all SMU's problem and not JJ's. Well, what do you expect from an agent.

Will they exceed my expectations? I hope so. I am confident the COC understands the critical importance of taking SMU football to a higher level so that SMU may benefit from the long term potential financial benefits.

I am sure they wanted this leaked to flush out JJ. I am not the first to learn of this.

I think JJ dug himself in already.. I mean an entire fanbase and support came with pitchforks once they heard their university was making the biggest mistake in its history of hiring coaches... That university was ASU unfortunately who apparently showed more smarts than us... I'll be throwing a TGJJIG party: Thank God JJ Is Gone Party.

A strategy to force your negotiating opponent to make a decision. Flee or fight. SMU can deny the "rumors" all the while waiting to see if JJ takes the bait and makes the first move - and he has. His agent is already touting him to prospective programs. Of course, he is always doing this, except there are other signs JJ is preparing to make a move.

JJ will make a mistake, and I suspect SMU knows this.
