Geez if I were his agent I just say retire trying to do a task that countless other coaches have failed to do here and move to Hawaii and focus on his family with the limited time left. Its got to be hard to be JJs agent...trying to sell a defective product...

Good!smumustang1980 wrote:A strategy to force your negotiating opponent to make a decision. Flee or fight. SMU can deny the "rumors" all the while waiting to see if JJ takes the bait and makes the first move - and he has. His agent is already touting him to prospective programs. Of course, he is always doing this, except there are other signs JJ is preparing to make a move.SMUer wrote:Flush him out? What does that mean?
JJ will make a mistake, and I suspect SMU knows this.
And when we find which school he is talking to, we can make a bee line to those recruits, and assure them that he won't be here, so come on board..TURN ABOUT IS FAIR PLAY!
In all seriousness, we might get a pop in recruits since the leaks have begun.
Beat the hell out of anybody!

That's all good, but they damn well better be on the search and have a short list and plan/funds. Otherwise, we'll look like idiots by forcing out JJ and replacing him with a nobody and go back to 0, 1, and 2 win seasons.

Well, he's already sold his house, so there's one thing.smumustang1980 wrote:A strategy to force your negotiating opponent to make a decision. Flee or fight. Tell the Gilberts to call up Garrett's old coach, Chad Morris. Tell him that if he can hire young, energetic recruiting staff, he can have whatever amount of $ he wants.
Re: Out At End of Season
Yes on Chad Morris, easy on the pay statement... what does he make now 1.5? No more than 2... that's still respectable and close to what we're paying now... for nothing...ojaipony wrote:Tell the Gilberts to call up Garrett's old coach, Chad Morris. Re: Out At End of Season
Did your friend in the COC happen to mention whether they intend to continue or increase the level of financial backing they are currently giving for a new coach?
I know many people on here will be thrilled to see JJ gone, but from what I have read on here these past months I'm not sure many people on here understand that we could be letting go of what has been termed "mediocrity" and replacing it with where we were. As Stallion says, 1 or 2 win seasons could revisit us very fast.
I also think that it is ridiculous to break this right now with the most winnable portion of our schedule upon us.
I swear SMU find new ways to make a complete pig's ear of things.

Re: Out At End of Season
Everyone with an "in" knows what is happening at the end of the season, not that this thread is necessarily wholly correct, but most have enough sense not to post it on the public boards.
On a side note 2 win seasons are coming back with our without June gone as our recruited talent is quickly resembling June's first year.

Sounds like this "news" is from the ladies every-other-Wednesday sewing circle. Your use of adjectives is astounding.smumustang1980 wrote:Without naming names, and I cannot, I will say that a well placed source and a member of a certain group that defrays a certain coach's salary has disclosed to me in a conversation today that a coach we all love and respect is definitively out at the end of the season. I am curious as to how the season will play out... Again, this is not a rumor and comes from an exceptionally reliable source. I apologize to my beloved SMU for having leaked this, but what the hell. Re: Out At End of Season
You know, I've been thinking about the basketball search committee and how all that went. Everyone is in agreement that the LB hire was phenomenal, but have we forgotten the complete embarrassment that led up to that? And that LB begging to come here was the only thing that saved us from a complete mess? I appreciated we aimed high, but we saw pretty quickly the lack of interest in coming here, even for big bucks. And football is certainly more difficult to rebuild than hoops.ojaipony wrote:That's all good, but they damn well better be on the search and have a short list and plan/funds. I am not sure you understand that JJ has made the first move by selling his house and having his agent market him to other schools during the season.Mustangsabu wrote:I'm not sure many people on here understand that we could be letting go

That would explain the even more absurd recruiting class we have so far this year...Rebel10 wrote:I am not sure you understand that JJ has made the first move by selling his house and having his agent market him to other schools during the season.Mustangsabu wrote:I'm not sure many people on here understand that we could be letting go
Re: Out At End of Season
I'm just excited for what comes after June. He's done a LOT to turn around the program, but we need that extra bit of ooomph to go to the next level. I believe we have found one potential recipe for success in Larry Brown, but it's not just about bringing in an old sage of the game, but rather, focus on youth in the staff and energy. I can't emphasize energy enough.
Re: Out At End of Season
What about Hal mumme with a stable of young energetic recruiters? Is that a potential option?
