Typical SMU - fight over South Dallas reference while the real issue is whether football will continue to be here in five years at the D-I level.

I know people over there that are not trash. It is truly sad to see someone say things like that but want to recruit players from that area. Or would you rather not recruit players from that area?
Well I hope one day I can meet those people but I have yet to see anything to the contrary to my comment. I just know that I'm nervous when I cross oakcliff territory. Honestly though I wish we had the ability to recruit from downtown as the bottom and all the way to McKinney and everything west and east of that line.

SMU has some incredibly generous and forward thinking people that will only move the university forward and prepare it to be a leader as we move forward. We are very lucky. And the more facilities and programs that cross disciplines the better. We need to move away from being seen as a trade school for Rich kids and assert ourselves as an intellectual hub of the nation.

Do you know fair amount of people from that area? Would you call Jordan Ingram trash? Would you be happier with an all white team?

I know hippie liberals like Abu and stallion thinks it such an outlandish statement when all you have to do is take the green line or the blue and red line south of Dallas and see what I'm talking about. Basically hope you brought your Kevlar vest!

No cause I didn't say that and I would be perfectly fine with an all Mexican black brown team that came from kids who grew up in Allen, McKinney, Denton etc... I guess you narrow minded PC people thought I was referring to race WOW, I mean socio-economic classes would have been a much better answer...

"I only speak rationally"..."I only deal with reality"..."you are all too small-minded to see"...blah blah blah. SMU is closer to winning a national championship in football than SMU being seen as THE intellectual hub of the nation...which ain't close. Get over your ivory tower, elitist bullshite. It's disgusting and no worse than the "rich brats" you clearly seem to despise.

Most of the time when people talk about south Dallas they are talking about blacks. If you are talking the people that are economically worse off then that might another subject matter. But the people over there are mostly black and Hispanic. And most are not criminals.

I know the guy is a complete tool. He's probably sitting in his mothers basement with online degree from Singapore management university and thinks he part of smu. I mean typically if you think you are the smartest person in the room you generally are the opposite...

SMU needs to be a beacon to the entire city. Parts of South Dallas suffer from serious socio-economic problems but education is probably the most important instrument of change, and we need to play a role in that. And then of course there is the fact that we want the sons of south Dallas to populate our teams and help us to break free of crippling mediocrity, and their friends and families to fill the stands.
The attitude of people like Alumni11 is a disservice to SMU, and utterly devoid of an understanding of the civic role of universities.

Well I'm basing it off all the articles and crime charts highlighting that area. I mean if you know people and they have given you an entirely different perception awesome. I hope to God I'm wrong but based on evidence, articles and other peoples commentary of the area I have always thought and continue to believe when I go through there.

Believe or not I lived out therefor a few years and it's not what people say it is. Not saying you don't have people that are not good over there but for the most part most are just working class people trying to make it the best way they can on usually lower paying jobs. I hope that kind of helps.

Oh wow any day you would like to get off the high and mighty soap box? Education is great to an extent unless those kids down there get a full ride scholarship they are going to get hit with crippling debt. As great as education is, it can be the worst thing if its not back by the end goal of school: a job. If it doesn't result with that, then education failed. Fortunately my school has been good at that. It provided me with a great job and fortunately I didn't get the Occupy Wall street mindset that Abu has yuck!
