Terrell and Gene Phillips without any question in my mind would have to be First Team. Phillips was easily-not even close-the greatest offensive player in SMU history. Gene did have a very good brother that played inside named John Phillips. Gene Phillips was SMU's version of Pistol Pete Marivich. One truly great SMU player that should be in the mix is Charles Beasley. Anybody who saw him play I'm sure would want to have Clayton "the Animal" Kovar on the team for the intimdation factor-probably would foul out with 15:22 left in the First Half though.

those teams from the 60's were pretty solid with Beasley and Holman in the backcourt . Carroll Hooser was no slouch in the post and Begert was a good three. I have to agree that IT and Gene Phillips have to be starters and I personally like Butch Moore at the point. He was a terrific college PG.
Give me a starting 5 of Moore and Phillips in the backcourt, Krebs and IT in the low post and Carl Wright as the swing guy.

How about local product Larry Johnson? Led his team to an NCAA championship; NCAA player of the year; no. 1 overall draft pick; rookie of the year; two time NBA all-star.
Oh, wait! I am sorry. I forgot. He just qualified to come to SMU and was offered and accepted a scholarship and Ken Pye in his infinite wisdom made his own determination that Larry Johnson's scholarship offer would be revoked. Why? Because Pye didn't like the fact that Johnson's SAT score jumped too much the second time he took it.

Stallion's got a point about Korver. He was a Dennis Rodman type...a freak in his day that could go after a rebound like nobody I've seen at SMU in years. And...anyone who doesn't think Gene Phillips belongs on the all time team never saw him play. Imagine what Phillips could have done if he played during the 3-point era? The guy scored from everywhere on the floor and had incredible range. Another guard combo that would have benefitted from the trey was Bobby Rollins and Larry Delzell. Those guys were gunners who could get into hot streaks.
The Hooser,Holman, Beasley, Begert team with big Mike Marsh somtimes coming off of the bench forhighlight fun was a great team to watch. They played with huge hearts and tripped up some big name boys in the process. The determination of Beasley and Holman would be a pleasant would be fun on the Hilltop again. Begert- Did you relly hang by your heels to strecth to be too tall for the draft needing only 1'2 inch in height?
