I was a bit shocked when I saw the attendance. Homecoming is usually one of the highest attended games (in not the highest). (Even though it's not our highest attended game this season, we had 33k for Homecoming and we're not even paying on campus). The team has been winning and going bowling. Gilbert put on a hell of a performance and lead a big comeback.

What more does SMU want? Get in the stands and support the team. Obviously the posters on here are doing what they can but the student body and alums aren't responding for some reason.

smu people would rather party than go to a game. it's really that simple. the boulevard is one big party. most there have no desire to go to or even care about the game. they would rather watch whatever is on the tvs they have set up.
they did know about homecoming ceremonies at halftime so they went to that then left. it's probably the worst fan base in the country except for the 15k diehards.

Accurate assessment CK. It must be all the Californian students and alumni that are fans of other teams or something. SMU needs to win more than 7 to be a blip on the radar.

Unfortunately the weather forcast was for a 70% chance of rain...which never happened until way after the game ended. I'm sure that had some affect on the number in attendance. Not everyone is willing to sit in the rain to watch a game...certainly not the so called casual fan we need.

And certainly most don't want to watch a loser football team, which is the image we all too frequently project.

SMU football is a garbage product. Lecturing people who just want to have a good time is not going to fill the stands. Improving the product we are asking them to purchase will. Why would anyone other than our little band of eccentrics show up to see SMU play Temple? 90% of Dallas couldn't even tell you what state Temple is in.

Again we agree on the sports topics. Yes I don't blame fans until we have 3 seasons straight of beating quality teams and getting in top 25.

I completely agree. Our football is garbage, therefore fans are not going to waste their time to see our team getting whooped. Once we have 3 straight 10+ win seasons and beating TCU, Tech and others consistently...and ranked...people will start coming in droves.

Look at TCU: "Since joining the Big 12, TCU has seen success beyond the football field. Increased fan interest in the athletics department was sparked as a result of rivalries between former Southwest Conference members being renewed. This spark in fan interest has caused season ticket sales for TCU’s football program to increase by 275-percent over the last five years. This year, TCU sold nearly 33,000 season tickets for its football games. In 2010, when TCU announced its move to the Big East, that number was 19,000. In 2011 when it announced it would join the Big 12, the number jumped to 24,000. In 2012, its first year of Big 12 membership, TCU sold 32,000 season tickets for its football program."

And, yes, there is something wrong with the damn "fans" on the Boulevard, and no it's not the football product. Turner has created a competing product which appeals to many people. Perhaps selling alcohol in the stands will help the situation. If SMU can find a way to put the Boulevard in Ford, then the problem is solved.

Fans are not to blame...watching SMU football is painful

Second half was indeed exciting and fun to watch...unfortunately the first half was just the opposite. As a result many folks evidently thought they had better things to do than watch that crap. Fortunately I am a glutton for punishment and stayed for the second half. Good thing I did. 8) This team needs in the worst way to start playing lights out for a full four quarters.

the funny part is that the "fans" who left at halftime of the last 2 games -hell throw in Montana St. have missed the only bearable, watchable parts of the home season. What if you were "one of those guys"-3 straight times "fans" have "given up on their team" and the team came back. As I mentioned after the Rutgers game, the 4-5,000 fans that stayed are starting to turn up the noise factor

I have a friend who left an mlb game early and missed a triple play. From that day he never leaves any sporting event early. Sometimes it is painful.

With the Montana St game and the Temple game I had little doubt in my mind that the team would come back, but the thing is at that point I didn't care.

Both of those games should never have looked like how they did. I'm glad we had an amazing offensive performance, but I expected to get that against Temple. To be where we were at halftime is an embarrassment whether or not we ended up winning.
