What about that game against Navy and Roger Staubach. Navy, ranked #1 in the country and unranked SMU holding them off on about our 12 yard line for 3 Staubach passes to win the game. Don't remember the final score, but the scoreboard lights at the Cotton Bowl were flashing for the first time in many years. Played in 1964, I think.
lots of great games over the years, but I disagree with comments that the game against Kansas to open Ford wasn't special. I was at SMU from 1970-1974 and wished back then we'd had a stadium like Ford rather than busing to the Cotton Bowl. Besides the heat, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere that day and after so many years of losing, was nice to beat a Big XII opponent.
I do agree that tie with Arkansas at Texas Stadium has to rank pretty high, but there's nothing quite like winning in Austin. Just think...that may NEVER happen again.

Perhaps if all you older folks, who now pity us youngins, had not led us to the Death Penalty, then we wouldn't have to list KU as a "greatest moment". As for me, beating Arkansas in Fayetteville (1998?) was probably the best I've been to. The tie versus A&M in the Alamodome a close second.
I think your assessment is erroneous, unless Mr. Blount and Mr. Clements, et al., are posing as somebody else on this board.
Sorry for the generalization, but those of us that came post-DP didn't exactly have a lot to cheer about. I didn't see a win until my soph year. But as bad as we were at times, that made the wins that much better. Congratulations for being around for the glory days. I hope ya'll are enjoying your 40s and 50s. BTW -- the seniors this year were born in '83-'84. I wonder how many of them remember the glory days.
Look, bad football is better than no football, which is what I had to watch my last two undergrad years at SMU, 1987-88.
