I have a hard time believing we're worse than UNT and Texas State right now.

We should be at #11.

Are you and Alumni11 the same person with two different usernames, or are ya'll just competing to see who can be the most negative [deleted] on PF?

we are definitely better than Texas St (5-3) although that program its doing a great job at raising its level of play. Its only what in its second year of Division 1A football and so are a few schools in the Sun Belt which I think affects their bowl eligibility. But looking at the results of NTSU this yeat-I dunno if I wouldn't be tempted to call it a tossup-they are ahead of us in Sagarin too by a substantial 24 slots

UNT has close losses at Ohio and Tulane, plus they were tied with UGA at UGA halfway through the 3rd quarter. I have not seen anything that would let me say we were definitely better than UNT either. They are favored by 4 over Rice tomorrow night in Denton, as Stallion mentioned in another thread, that will be an interesting game for both of them.

Haven't had a drink in 48 hours, but go back and compare the bodies of work. Seemingly everything is a shot at June, the coaching staff in general, the administration, the fans, our conference, you name it. I probably shouldn't just single you two out because there are a lot of other culprits as well. I know it's a message board and there's going to be gripes, but the constant negativity is really getting old. Current players, prospective recruits, and their parents read these boards. Let's always try to keep that in mind. Hopefully they take many of things said here with a large grain of salt.

Listen, I'm not thrilled with things either. I thought we'd be farther along in year six of the JJ era, and it's been readily apparent, to me at least after Tulane last year, that JJ has plateaued and the best option is for him to depart after this season. Hopefully, that departure will come after our fifth consecutive bowl game...something we've never come close to in our history. Yeah, bowls are easier to make these days and blah blah blah but it's still a measuring stick for your program and it's a lot better to be in one than not. Especially considering our hated neighbors to the west may not be making a postseason appearance this year, it would be pretty cool to make one and send our awesome seniors (Gilbert, Rambo, Acker, Jeremy, Gottshalk, etc) off with one last bowl game, along with June.

We can beat Cincinnati, Houston, UConn, and USF. UCF looks like a damn good team this year so that may be a longshot, but I didn't give us much of a chance against Tulsa last year either. We get them at home, seniors' final game, who knows? I'm personally expecting 6-6 but hoping for 8-4. I hope you all are as well. Pony Up!

Well, maybe we should be 9th, but not any higher based on record, but I have a hard time believing Rice or UNT would not have the same record if they had played all the same teams. Let's hope we are much higher at the end of the season. Mason, can you hear me now?

I don't have a problem with the ranking. The Mustangs are what they are. . . A mediocre FBS football team at best. Not trying to make that last comment as a negative comment. But, the failure of the higher ups, both in the SMU administration & athletic department is why SMU football is in its current situation.

I still have us as number 8 in Texas. We would beat Texas State and UNT. I think we would beat Rice at home and lose to them on the road.

There are some completely legitimate observations mixed in with those shots. My body of work is grounded in constant realism not constant negativity, I'm positive when I think it's warranted. Like you said, it's a message board and there are going to be gripes but people shouldn't take this stuff so seriously. It should go without saying that the views expressed on this board don't reflect the values of the university so Ponyfans.com shouldn't be a metric used by anyone to evaluate SMU.

Just to keep us separated, this is my only account lol if I were to have another one it would be SMUALUM11 or Just 11. Anyways, similar to what SBSmith is saying and alot of other posters, we really havent had a solid game. I mean hoping that not outlandish to the moderates on the board but when you look back at all the games... did we ever have 1 solid game? I understand some plays go bad but thats why you get 15 minutes a quarter to remedy those situations. I look at our wins Memphis, Temple and Montana St... and Im thinking.. this isnt something brag about especially considering we were losing to two of the three teams for good chunk if not almost the entire game. Sure its great that we arent like 1-6 and that we had come from behind wins. My point is those particular games should have never been close (unless we had a brand new coach). We should have been able to be ahead the entire time and over 2 TDs.

Now setting aside game performance, our recruiting is abysmal compare to the rest of the CF nation. We should have a top 50 recruiting class and yet we are pretty freaking far away from that. Sure the fanbase is few but that comes with the lack of a dominant season and fun gameplay. I write this over and over again when people whine about attendance: PEOPLE FIND OUR GAMES BORING. Thats the simple fact. People at my work and friends outside of work think we never look prepare, we dont look like we have the talent to even compete against P5 teams. It goes on and on. I know we have an ability to recruit, but it takes a salesman of a coach to do it. Thats why SMU should focus on its next hire, the best recruiter money can buy that has a decent gameplan or find two decent OC and DC to back him up. CFB = Recruiting.

The other gripe is the fact we are no leveling off but crashing and burning right now. Almost every local site or media thinks we are below UNT. If that isnt a slap in face and a kick in the nuts, I'm not sure what else is. To those who think we can beat UNT, I would say take your emotions out of your comments and seriously think about our overall game play and preparation... I would say its an even draw at best.

Now I get people dont like hearing negativity especially all the time but its very hard to find positive things to say about our current state and bleak future. TCU might not make the post-season but they get like at least 10-20x more money than we do... We dont have recruiting class to make us feel good in 2-4 years. We have a conference that looks stale and a tv contract that looks like we are 11AM for life. So I choose to release my anger and frustration on here rather than gripe about it in front of prospective fans I actually or possibly meet in person. Now enough said, and I hope our players will Pony up and win the next 5 games. I personally am going to write off the UCF and Houston games, but Im hoping we can win USF, UCONN and Cincy.

Pfft. Whatever. Baylor, A&M, Texas, and Tech are the class of this state with TCU bringing up the rear of that first tier. I think Houston is an illusion, but is probably the best of the middle three that also includes Rice and us. North Texas? Please. Texas State? Please. UTSA and UTEP are right where they belong -- at the bottom.
