Texas Football Rankings

Re: Texas Football Rankings
I think a major point of this poll is that if you aren't recruiting well and working hard to get better then the football parity in Texas is getting better and better. All teams playing at a D1 level and improving except for UTEP and SMU. Both are down while Baylor, TX SAn, UNT, TX ST, Houston and TT on the rise. TX and Ags fighting to maintain whie TCU on the ledge and might go either way.

I can't believe NTSU is a 4 1/2 point favorite over Rice. Seems like Rice is pretty solid this year

For the last five minutes we haven't shown improvement. But if you haven't noticed, SMU's been on the rise a bit the last four years. And we're not down at all. There's a legitimate concern we've plateaued, but we're not down regardless of what some midseason hack poll says.

Re: Texas Football Rankings
Delusional maybe, but I think the Stangs will surprise us. A big fat IF the defense starts clicking, we win out and shut up all the critics. I expect the large state schools: Texas/A&M/Tech/Houston to always be in the Top 5 with the privates: Baylor/TCU/Rice/SMU spoiling the top 5 from time to time. Then the other state schools bringing up the rear: UNT/TXState/NTSA/UTEP.
After we beat Houston on 11/29 and then UCF on 11/7 we get to the #5 slot. Gilbert wants in the NFL, looking to make the best of the season and his numbers. Johnson and Holman are seniors trying to make something happen for their last year. Offense will continue to shine.
Defense is key. Heads out of their [TCU] and we will be saying much different things come mid-December.

Hey, I'm with you. Foolish not to admit the possibility exist. What are the odds? Say 1000 to 1.

PB- those poll represent perception by the pundits- not necessarily how we feel or reality. It is what it is. If we want to move up we need to start playing like we belong. The rest of the season will prove which group is right and which group is wrong.

Re: Texas Football Rankings
Houston on the rise and we are going down? I see it the other way around. We never had a chance against them for pretty much all of post-DP then we CRUSH them last year and are now starting to stealing kids right out of their backyard with offers from them (Lamar and Jason Philips . . . Zelt and Lancaster for example last year). Although they had an impressive win against Rutgers, they are nowhere near as good as their record (I'm envious of it and if we scheduled cupcakes we'd have the same record). We REALLY need to beat them this year so the tread continues and this perception that last year was a fluke (both our win against them and their record in general) goes away.

Re: Texas Football Rankings
that argument is getting weaker and weaker every week after solid UH performances against Rice, BYU and Rutgers

Re: Texas Football Rankings
Ok I get people on here don't like negativity but seriously we can't keep lying to ourselves and say we are on the rise. We are more likely than not going in full circle to where we were before than actually being on the rise. I will say 2009-2011 we were on the rise but post those seasons we have been in major decline. At least the 2011 season (if I got the year right) where we beat tcu away and we lose by 7 points against tech. Now we get demolished by 2 or 3 TDs...

How much PT is Minor and Lancaster getting this year? Phillips doesn't seem to be that much of a help since we're still kicking you up and down the recruiting trail. We went 5-7 last year and STILL had a Top 50 recruiting class. To say Smoo is on the rise while UH is going down is pure delusion. The records alone say so.
SMU- Senior qb and somewhat experienced team= 3-4
UH- 2-qb system with two true freshmen, true freshmen and sophomore receivers, true freshmen defensive lineman, true freshman kick returners, sophomore linebackers, etc. = 7-1 and in first place in the AAC with a 4-0 conference record.
We're going to run SMU off the field like we normally do.
After Minor left, we got Bowser to flip from Ok State. As a true freshman, he's already our sack leader and every team we've faced this year has double teamed and held him. He also killed USF's momentum when he sacked and forced the USF qb to fumble. Good tradeoff imo.

NO ONE has said that. No one. After a meteoric rise in 2009-2010, we have probably plateued.
