WILMER, Texas (SMU) - The No. 10 SMU equestrian team defeated South Dakota State by a count of 11-9 on Friday afternoon at BuckBranch Farm. SMU extended its perfect home record to 3-0 in 2013-14, and is now 3-3 overall.

"Although the score was tight today, I thought we did some things very well out there," head coach Natalie Burton said. "We had three MOPs, and we had a few other good performances today. This was an important step for our confidence, as we prepare for another two-competition road weekend next week."

Sophomore Alex Butterworth and freshman Sylvia de Toledo started Friday morning with a matching pair of victories on fences, tallying matching 76s. Sophomore Schaefer Raposa earned MOP honors on fences, her third on the event this season with an 86-point performance. Senior Julianna Fischer wrapped-up the Mustangs' fences scoring with an 85-77 victory.

Following fences, SMU took two horsemanship points, as freshman Jaclyn White earned MOP honors with 73 points. Redshirt-freshman Kristen Schramm took the other Mustang point in horsemanship with 71.5 points. SMU held a 6-4 lead at the midway point.

The Mustangs padded that two-point cushion on flat, taking four of the five points. Junior Greer Hindle took MOP honors on the flat with her 87-80 victory. The ride was the fifth MOP on flat in the career of the Ann Arbor, Mich., native. De Toledo took her second point in a day for the first time in her young career, claiming a 77-59 victory. Classmate Julia Fowler claimed the Mustangs second flat point with her 80-point performance, and sophomore Mary Abbruzzese rounded out the scoring, taking her fourth flat point of the season with 72 points.

With the Mustangs up 10-5 heading into the final event, junior Courtney Line got the clinching point, edging Laura Dunlavy 67.5-67.

The Mustangs will travel to Martin, Tenn., next weekend to take on Kansas State (Nov. 8) and the University of Tennessee at Martin (Nov. 9).
