Re: Out At End of Season
Here's my now couple of years old understanding. SMU and JJ long ago agreed to a mutual parting after this 2013 season. No idea what the financial arrangement might be, but it involved an amicable parting that left June's reputation intact, impacted recruiting as little as possible, and allowed everyone to look like a hero.
Though there are a lot of hateful, judging folks on here, history will be kind to what JJ was able to accomplish here. The trick is going to be continuing that upward climb with the right staff going forward.

If what is reported here is valid, then I hope SMU picks the right coach. I remember the hiring of LB was a bit of a nightmare. I remember thinking "Brown wants the job and you guys want to look at other candidates? Why?"
As for recruiting I have often stated that football recruiting is tougher than some on this board realize. That being said, JJ and his coaches give the impression that they are not working as [deleted] recruiting as they might. I disagree with those who say our covered is bare. We will have a good team again next year if everyone sticks that is currently playing at SMU. However, if the staff had worked harder if might be 'more full'.
I wish we had made more headlines about a staff that hunts talent and makes big offers. And, I wish JJ had not pulled the ASU stunt the way he did. I think that hurt him more with fans then the recruiting.
If what is reported here is valid, I wish JJ well and hope those with responsibility pick a coach that will make us a force once again in the world of college football.

Sounds to me that if this is a deal that has been put into place that Mumme is a Head Coach in waiting.

Re: Out At End of Season
I am not promoting the deal, just seems logical that bringing Mumme in was to either save June's job or take over June's job. If a deal to end it was in place, why bother with bringing him in?

Let's assume this is true for a moment. Whose idea of you think it was? June or SMU? Just not sure what either party necessarily benefits from that sort of deal. Why Mumme?mrydel wrote:I am not promoting the deal, just seems logical that bringing Mumme in was to either save June's job or take over June's job. I really doubt Mumme would be put in charge. A new head coach will come outside of the current staff unless we go on a magical run and win conference.

That would most likely be the key.
